Best Chinese Albums of April 2026: 8 Essential Records to Welcome the Summer

Editor’s Note: In 2026, we are relaunching FM3.14, our music recommendation column at SSPAI, inviting experienced music industry professionals and passionate listeners to recommend outstanding Chinese indie and pop music. This year, we are also honored to once again collaborate with our longtime partner FiiO as the title sponsor of the column. FiiO currently operates several audio brands: the audiophile-focused FIIO brand centered on professional HiFi sound quality and audio features; JadeAudio, aimed at mainstream consumers seeking affordable HiFi products; and SNOWSKY, designed for younger users who care about aesthetics and personalization, focusing on stylish and expressive HiFi devices.

As spring fades and early summer arrives, seasons continue their endless cycle, while culture quietly flows and survives through music.

Many of April’s selected albums revolve around the idea of “inheritance.” Taiwanese artist Raying preserves the warmth of his relationship with his grandmother inside his songs, hoping to protect that sense of completeness forever. Experimental musician Mamur returns to folk music, armed with nothing more than his voice and a guitar, singing the Kazakh folk songs of his youth. The Paiwan women’s vocal group TBT Taiwu Ballads Troupe collides traditional tribal chants with fresh modern rhythms, bringing ancient songs from their people into new life. The scholars and poets of traditional Chinese culture leap into modern electronic music, where the imagery and emotions of classical poetry grow new branches through electronic soundscapes. Meanwhile, talented singer-songwriters from Hong Kong continue breaking away from conventional Cantopop structures, searching for a new modern classic of Cantonese music entirely their own.

Music exists as something linear. It rarely emerges from nothingness. Every act of creation stands upon the shoulders of those who came before. Whether creators acknowledge it or not, each of them carries one baton in humanity’s endless musical relay race.

Bar xatteƣem, Bar ⱪayƣem — All Joy, All Sorrow

    April 15, 2026

    A One-Man Kazakh Choir

After spending years roaming through experimental music, Mamur returns to simplicity, singing Kazakh folk songs once again. Zhang Xiaozhou, who oversaw and supervised the album, described it as “a one-man Kazakh choir.”

Listen closely and you will notice that most of the songs are built from little more than overlapping acoustic guitar and layered vocal harmonies. A rough, smoky low voice filled with grain and texture handles the lower vocal parts, while gentler mid-to-high male vocals carry the main melodies. Woven together, they create the charm of a small choir. Although the arrangements are sparse and minimal, the music never feels thin or empty.

The album itself was born from a chance encounter between Mamur and a cheap secondhand acoustic guitar inside a Shenzhen recording studio. The sound of this guitar first appeared on his 2024 album Sleepless. While recording Sleepless, Mamur also played the same guitar while singing Kazakh folk songs, eventually gathering them together into All Joy, All Sorrow. According to Zhang Xiaozhou’s notes, most of the songs on the album were first heard by the teenage Mamur during the 1980s and 1990s through radio broadcasts and cassette tapes. Some of these folk songs came from Xinjiang, while others originated from Soviet-era Kazakhstan, all singing timeless themes — joy and sorrow.

At present, the album is only available for paid streaming and purchase on NetEase Cloud Music and Bandcamp, and has not yet been released on other platforms.

    Kivaljuq – Songs in Bloom

    April 22, 2026

Old Wine in New Bottles, Overflowing With Life

An elementary school teacher once traveled among Paiwan elders, recording nearly one hundred ancient Paiwan melodies word by word through oral storytelling and singing. He later taught these ancient songs to children, eventually founding the vocal group TBT Taiwu Ballads Troupe so younger generations could remember their people’s culture and help revive their artistic traditions.

The teacher’s name was Camake Valaule. He passed away from illness in 2022. The children who once learned to sing under him have now grown into adults, and after the death of their mentor, the group temporarily fell silent. Later, producer Wu Jindai stepped in, leading the young women back together, helping them continue rehearsing and rediscover confidence and direction through song. That journey ultimately gave birth to Kivaljuq – Songs in Bloom.

This is not a conventional folk preservation compilation. The album shines with flashes of modern rhythm and movement. Even while immersed in melodies polished by time itself, you never feel trapped by nostalgia or repetition. Constantly shifting rhythms and intricate harmonic aesthetics merge together into a rich and mesmerizing listening experience — truly old wine in new bottles, abundant and overflowing with life. Meanwhile, the women’s singing flows gracefully and elegantly, like a woven fabric carrying forward the soul and culture of an entire people.

Beyond the collision between ancient melodies and modern musical elements, TBT Taiwu Ballads Troupe also collaborated with Jiaxing Ancient Ballads Choir, a group formed by Paiwan elders, to release a companion album — Kivaljuq – Songs in Bloom: Heritage A Cappella Edition. In the raw, unadorned layering of human voices, the beautiful vision of ancient songs being passed down through generations quietly reveals itself.

    自然律 (Laws of Nature)

    April 20, 2026

Traversing Ancient and Modern Worlds Through Electronic Music

When it comes to the grand challenge of carrying culture through music, some artists choose restoration and reenactment. Electronic musician Laws of Nature instead chooses to ignite the engine of imagination, transforming the thoughts and visions of ancient people into electronic sound.

A journey through Sichuan inspired him with a question: in today’s fully modernized world, how should we interpret, understand, and even reconstruct traditional Chinese culture?

As he walked along ancient roads once traveled by Li Bai, gazed at Buddhist statues weathered by centuries, and listened to old roadside trees whispering in the wind, he suddenly realized that the ancients were not distant at all — they were present within the sound of the wind and the textures carved into stone.

Drawing inspiration from ancient texts, Laws of Nature used music to paint his own imagined visions of how people in the past once lived.

The album opens with a full 43-minute continuous version, where Laws of Nature personally introduces and explains each composition. These guide-like narrations weave together a series of vivid musical passages, making listeners feel as though they are truly embarking on a journey through history. The occasional appearance of flute and trumpet adds even more charm and atmosphere.

Of course, you can also listen to each track individually, allowing yourself to slowly savor the stories, references, and emotional landscapes hidden behind the music while imagining what figures like Bai Juyi, Li Qingzhao, and Tao Yuanming once saw, heard, and felt.

Unexpectedly, ancient Chinese poetry — long asleep in books — takes on an entirely new charm through electronic music, while electronic music itself somehow becomes unexpectedly elegant and refined.

    脱轨 (Derailed)

    April 9, 2026

Rap That Feels Closer to Who We Really Are

The rap music of 谢甜柚 feels much closer to the everyday experiences of ordinary people like us. The tone is approachable, the storytelling grounded and unpretentious. There is none of that forced posturing or awkward “rapper imitation show,” nor the performative anger aimed at imaginary enemies.

Derailed constructs a fictional story revolving around dreams and the inner workings of the self. A man wakes up on a train and, together with a shadow visible only to himself, becomes trapped inside a looping murder case. After enduring countless cycles, the man finally escapes the predicament and discovers the version of reality he is willing to believe in.

Beyond its solid and imaginative narrative structure, another standout aspect of the album is its genuinely careful composition and arrangement. The use of real instruments gives the record a refined texture, while the sincerity and groundedness of the creative process can be felt in the musicality of every beat.

The album is available on platforms including Spotify and YouTube Music.

    春子 (Chunzi)

    May 1, 2026

A Child of Spring Returns to Simplicity, Preserving Deep Love for His Grandmother

Born in spring, Raying released his third solo album Chunzi at the very end of spring itself.

Raying has previously been nominated for Best New Artist at both the Golden Melody Awards and Golden Indie Music Awards, and his talent has long been widely recognized. He is also one of the hidden gems personally recommended by Wu Bai.

Originally a drummer, Raying often builds energetic rhythms and constantly seeks breakthroughs and experimentation within his music. But on Chunzi, he strips away elaborate arrangements and chooses instead to return to simplicity — picking up an acoustic guitar and sincerely singing songs and telling stories.

Raying described the album as feeling like coming home with a cup of tea in hand, using simple melodies and storytelling to share moments with his grandmother, Chunzi.

“Chunzi” was his grandmother’s name, but the title also carries a double meaning, representing himself as a “child of spring.” Throughout the album, one can deeply feel Raying’s affection for his grandmother.

“Rather than saying these songs are dedicated to my grandma, it’s more accurate to say that because of her care and gentleness, I gained the softness to love the world and the courage to keep sharing,” Raying wrote in the album notes. The image that inspired the album was a childhood memory of his grandmother holding his hand while walking him home uphill from kindergarten.

For the recording process, Raying wanted to converse with the era in which his grandmother once lived. The opening track, the joyful Gentle Breeze, was recorded using an old walkie-talkie as a microphone. Its creative inspiration came from the classic song Rose, Rose, I Love You, carrying the nostalgic jazz atmosphere of old Shanghai and the romantic vows exchanged in letters between his grandparents when they were young. The album’s closing title track, Chunzi, was recorded using a Japanese antique microphone from the 1940s. Family members from the younger generation sing together in gratitude toward the elderly, while Raying’s grandmother softly learns to sing along near the end of the song — mirroring how the young Raying once learned to speak by imitating her as a child.

Raying hopes to open a door through time and return to his grandmother’s youth, beginning with imagined stories of her romance before ultimately returning to the present, preserving the deep bond between grandson and grandmother forever within these songs.

    MeMe Collection — MeMe Collection

    April 2, 2026

    Youthful! Completely, Absolutely Youthful!

Neon Wei is a rising singer-songwriter heavily promoted by Mingtang Records, and the moment you hit play, you immediately understand why. This EP once again proves Mingtang’s excellent taste in music curation. “Catchy! Fun! Fantastic!” is the slogan they chose for Neon.

Neon represents a quintessential Gen Z voice — a Chinese-language musician born within a globalized cultural background, drawing inspiration from all over the world and channeling that universal energy back into her own music. The opening track You Are My Music, built atop infectious House dance rhythms, bursts forward with the energetic, carefree spirit of a younger generation that simply wants to live fully and freely.

Five songs, five different expressions. The musical influences shaping Neon are all seamlessly absorbed and transformed into something unmistakably her own. The songs contain direct confessions of love, reflections on relationships, and moments of looking back on growth, all wrapped inside stylish and vibrant arrangements. Meanwhile, her bright yet powerful voice becomes the secret weapon holding this entire youthful story together.

    GO JERSEY GO

    April 20, 2026

A Strong “Best New Artist” Contender Charging Fearlessly Away From Standard Parameters

A wonderfully surprising alternative pop record. A serious “Best New Artist” contender.

As a music creator with millions of followers online, Deng Zexi first entered our field of vision through this very album. It is a record overflowing with personality. At no point do you feel like she is imitating someone else, forcing a particular attitude, or struggling to hold herself together. By the end of the album, a very clear image of Deng Zexi forms in your mind — she pursues freedom, possesses refined taste, acts fearlessly and boldly, and has genuinely impressive vocal ability.

After spending two years questioning herself and viewing herself as someone outside society’s “standard parameters,” she arrived at one conclusion: the imperfections that deviate from social norms are precisely what prove her existence in this world.

The determined title GO JERSEY GO feels unmistakably like a way of cheering herself on. The album becomes a detailed record of her experiences navigating the world, while also speaking for every soul unwilling to surrender to standardized answers. If you possess even a slightly rebellious or freedom-seeking heart, GO JERSEY GO may very well become the background music to your life.

Deng Zexi fully demonstrates her command over a wide range of musical styles. On one hand, different arrangers help create a rich and constantly shifting listening experience blooming in all directions; on the other, her highly adaptable vocals move effortlessly between soft and ethereal emotional moments, rhythmic and carefree performances, and even occasional bursts of rap.

As she herself puts it: if you cannot become society’s ideal standardized product, then stop forcing yourself to fit. Go searching, go experiencing, go building strength — and then leap outward.

So let’s jump together. Go, go, go!

    New Classics

    April 9, 2026

A New Star, New Classics, and the Expanding Boundaries of Cantopop

Gordon Flanders and this new generation of singer-songwriters represent hope for Hong Kong music. Back when media channels and music production technologies were monopolized, the industry decided what kind of music people could hear, and audiences simply accepted whatever was served to them. It was the era itself that created those classics. Later, the internet opened people’s ears, and the traditional model of commercially manufactured pop idols became increasingly difficult to sustain.

Then came younger Hong Kong musicians like Garath T., Gordon Flanders, Moon Tang, and Kwan Ho Tak. The era of singers passively waiting for songs handed down to them has essentially ended. Writing and performing your own music is now the baseline. Although some younger artists still operate within the systems of the commercial music industry, their creativity and aesthetics have completely transformed. Gone are the heavy traces of traditional Cantopop formulas. What they create instead are stylish, universal, deeply personal expressions.

New Classics is Gordon Flanders’ first album after joining a major record label. Compared to his earlier work, the list of collaborators now includes major names such as Wyman Wong and MC Cheung Tinfu, yet their presence never dilutes Gordon’s own artistic identity.

Gordon is an exceptional composer. Just like the album title itself — “New Classics” — it functions both as self-encouragement and self-definition. The songs possess the smooth accessibility of pop music while still carrying the unmistakable personality of a creator. Tracks like Not Like express the various struggles encountered along the musical journey. Though the anxiety is never directly spelled out, the willingness to expose the reverse side of things already reveals courage and sincerity.

In interviews, Gordon has said that he does not want to be confined by older forms of music. He hopes to challenge the boundaries of Cantonese pop using new musical elements. He believes creators must first genuinely love their own work before others can be convinced by it; if one only blindly chases trends, uniqueness disappears.

During the creation of his first album, he wrote relatively few Cantonese songs and rarely had to consider audience expectations. But this “New Classics” project is written entirely in Cantonese, and after joining a larger company and collaborating with a new team, he inevitably has to think about listener acceptance. That reality naturally creates constraints during songwriting, but Gordon also recognizes that he must learn to find balance. The songs must satisfy his own artistic standards while also convincing the company. This balancing act represents his current stage of exploration and evolution.

When it comes to Cantonese music itself, Gordon occasionally feels conflicted. The Cantopop stars of the 1980s and 1990s were never lacking in bold experimental works, yet public perception of Hong Kong music remains largely limited to emotional ballads. Gordon wants to inject fresh new elements back into Cantonese music. If five songs on the album need to accommodate the market, then the remaining five songs must become the place where he creates exactly what he truly wants to make.

Every month while listening through new albums, there is always an initial sense of uncertainty — worrying that no truly outstanding work will emerge, worrying that nothing powerful enough will appear, leaving behind a strange sense of helplessness. Yet every time the selection process ends, there is still satisfaction in the end. Remarkable albums always rise to the surface eventually. And at that moment, the heart fills once again with energy and hope, realizing how fortunate it is to encounter such powerful works born from the spirit of the times.

Everyone’s personal growth shapes their own listening preferences. The albums I selected are merely reflections of my own perspectives and standards, offered only as reference and discussion. So what great albums did you discover in April? Share your recommendations.

Additional capabilities — including local experience bookings, service reservations, and AI-powered phone calls to businesses on behalf of users — are also planned for U.S. rollout this summer. Google further previewed Antigravity-powered custom mini apps capable of generating interactive search experiences tailored to specific search queries, initially launching for U.S.-based Google AI Pro and Ultra users over the coming months. Finally, AI Mode officially announced support for personalized AI services across 98 languages in 200 countries and regions, with no subscription required. The service can connect to Gmail and Google Photos to provide personalized search results, with Google Calendar integration planned later. Source

Google also introduced Universal Cart, a cross-service and cross-merchant intelligent shopping cart system. Users will be able to add products directly through Search, Gemini, YouTube, Gmail, and other Google products, while Gemini models track discounts, price drops, pricing history, and restock alerts in the background. Built on top of Google Wallet, Universal Cart can recognize payment benefits, membership information, and merchant discounts while reasoning across multiple retailers to infer user needs. Checkout is powered by the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), allowing users to complete purchases using Google Pay across brands including Nike, Sephora, Target, Ulta Beauty, Walmart, Wayfair, and Shopify merchants such as Fenty and Steve Madden, or alternatively redirecting users to merchant websites for final checkout while brands remain the official sellers of record. Universal Cart will launch this summer in U.S. Search and Gemini services, with YouTube and Gmail integrations arriving later. Source

Finally, Google also shared new progress updates regarding Android XR smart glasses, Workspace AI updates, expanded support for SynthID digital watermarking technology, new Google Flow updates, and Wear OS 7.

Sony raises prices for select PlayStation Plus subscription plans

On May 19, Sony announced price increases for short-term PlayStation Plus subscriptions for new users in certain regions. Monthly subscriptions have been adjusted to $10.99, while quarterly subscriptions now cost $27.99. Sony stated that the price increases were driven by “market conditions.” Existing subscribers are not immediately affected by the changes, though current users who modify or interrupt their subscriptions in the future will also be charged under the new pricing structure. Pricing for annual subscriptions and the Extra and Premium tiers remains unchanged for now. Source

Notably, some PlayStation users have already filed a class-action lawsuit against Sony Interactive Entertainment in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The lawsuit alleges that after tariffs imposed under the Trump administration’s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act in 2025 led Sony to raise PS5 pricing and pass costs on to consumers, the company continued retaining the benefits of those price increases even after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6–3 that the tariff authorization was invalid and companies were eligible for government refunds. Plaintiffs described the situation as creating a “double recovery windfall” for Sony. Source

Lawsuit filed by Elon Musk against Sam Altman dismissed

A federal jury in Oakland, California delivered a unanimous verdict on May 18 dismissing Elon Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, among others. After a three-week trial, the nine-member jury reached its decision in less than two hours, ruling that Musk’s claims accusing OpenAI of violating its original charitable mission were barred by the statute of limitations. In 2024, Musk — one of OpenAI’s co-founders — accused Altman, President Greg Brockman, and major investor Microsoft of betraying OpenAI’s original mission of developing non-profit AI “for the benefit of humanity” by transitioning into a commercial structure and aligning closely with Microsoft for massive private gain. Musk had previously provided early funding to OpenAI and sought damages of up to $150 billion in the lawsuit. The jury concluded that Musk had already known about OpenAI’s shift toward a for-profit structure as early as 2021, meaning his 2024 lawsuit exceeded California’s three-year statute of limitations. Evidence presented by the defense also showed that Musk himself had previously proposed transitioning OpenAI into a for-profit structure before ultimately failing to gain control of the organization. The ruling removes a major legal obstacle ahead of OpenAI’s expected IPO later this year. Musk later posted on X criticizing the verdict as being based purely on “procedural timing issues” rather than addressing the substantive justice of the case itself. Source

    News Worth a Quick Look

    • According to a report from Wccftech, information from a leaked shipping manifest last year suggests that a future Googlebook laptop may use Intel’s Panther Lake processor featuring 12 Xe3 graphics cores. The manifest indicates the product uses a Core Ultra Series 3 processor (Panther Lake) paired with a 12Xe3 graphics unit. In related documents from both Google and Intel, the same codename “Q7AP” appears repeatedly. That identifier reportedly corresponds to a Panther Lake 12Xe motherboard, while the Chromebook product codename tied to it is “Felino.” The laptop is said to feature a 16-inch design with 32GB of LPDDR5X memory and 1TB of storage. According to Intel’s published product lineup, the 12Xe variant should represent a high-end Panther Lake configuration, supporting up to a 16-core CPU with a power range between 25W and 80W. If the leak is accurate, the Googlebook will likely adopt Intel’s Core Ultra Series 3 processors. Source

AIDA: An All-in-One Calendar and Task Planning Tool

    • Platform: iOS, iPadOS
    • Keywords: Scheduling, To-Do Lists

@ElijahLee: Aida is a calendar and to-do list app developed for iPhone and iPad by Harry, one of the former founders behind the task management app Sorted. It combines to-do lists, calendars, and time planning tools into a single interface for viewing, planning, and taking action.

The app’s main interface is a daily timeline. At the top is a compact overview of the upcoming seven days, while the center of the screen is dominated by the current day’s time blocks. You can immediately see plans like watching a movie at 10 AM, writing app reviews at noon, working out in the evening, along with reminders to water your plants at night — all without constantly switching between multiple apps. Aida’s quick adjustment feature allows you to simply press and drag events directly on the timeline to reorder your day, while the associated time slots automatically update, making schedule reshuffling extremely convenient.

Using the add button in the bottom-right corner, you can freely add actions or events to the timeline. Actions function as to-do items, supporting text input and reminder times. Aida creatively introduces a drag-based time-setting system: by swiping the bar chart at the bottom left or right, you can adjust reminder times in 15-minute increments, making time adjustments feel surprisingly intuitive and efficient.

Of course, you can also tap the time directly for more precise hour-and-minute adjustments. Events in Aida function as standard calendar events and must include both start and end times. Users can also select calendar categories, set all-day events, and more.

Aida also introduces GTD-style project management features, including default categories such as Inbox, Anytime, and Someday. Custom projects allow users to organize related actions and events together into centralized collections. Aida is deeply integrated with iOS Calendar, allowing users not only to view iOS calendar events directly inside the app, but also to edit and sync them in real time. However, Aida currently does not integrate with Apple Reminders. The batch operations feature allows users to select multiple actions at once to complete, reschedule, move, or duplicate them, making it easy to adjust entire blocks of tasks quickly.

Aida is available as a free download on the App Store, though the free version comes with significant limitations, including support for only one integrated calendar, no ability to adjust action times, and restrictions on the number of actions and events that can be added. Paid subscriptions unlock advanced features such as unlimited projects, unlimited time blocks, and support for multiple calendar integrations. Pricing is 58 RMB per month, 298 RMB per year, or 698 RMB for a lifetime purchase, with a one-week free trial included.

Cogito: A Markdown Editor Designed to Connect Humans and AI Agents

    • Platform: macOS
    • Keywords: Markdown, AI

@Vanilla: By now, I think everyone has seen more Markdown editors than they can count. But with the rise of AI Agents, Markdown as a file format feels like an old tree blooming again, suddenly regaining popularity among a new generation of users. Cogito is a Markdown editor designed for both humans and AI Agents. It is not knowledge-base-oriented like Obsidian, not focused on WYSIWYG editing like Typora, not writing-centric like iA Writer, and not developer-oriented like Visual Studio Code. Instead, its defining characteristic is being “file-first” and “agent-friendly.” So let’s take a closer look at what makes this new-generation Markdown editor different.

Cogito’s entire library is built directly on the local file system — no proprietary formats, no encryption barriers, no built-in syncing systems. The structure of files and folders mirrors Finder exactly, with zero learning curve. In my own workflow, for example, I directly set Codex’s workspace folder as Cogito’s main location. The app automatically scans all folders and Markdown files inside the Codex workspace, organizes them by date, and presents everything in a clear and intuitive layout.

After selecting any Markdown file, Cogito opens directly into editing mode by default, allowing us to freely edit content however we like. Clicking the first button in the top-right corner switches between edit mode and preview mode, with the keyboard shortcut Command + R. I often use Codex to generate industry or company research reports in Markdown format, and Cogito makes both editing and reading those files incredibly convenient, eliminating the constant back-and-forth between Codex, Finder, and separate Markdown editors.

By clicking the second “Outline” button in the top-right corner, users can quickly view the current document’s outline and jump directly to any section by clicking its heading.

In addition to being AI-Agent-friendly, Cogito can also directly invoke local AI Agents inside the app itself to summarize, analyze, edit, or otherwise process documents displayed within the application.

Overall, for someone like me who frequently works with AI Agents and Markdown documents, Cogito feels like an excellent Plan B — clearly separated from my primary writing tool iA Writer and my knowledge-base system Obsidian. It launches instantly, gets the job done efficiently, and disappears just as quickly, making it a highly streamlined tool.

Cogito is currently available as a free download from its official website and is presently in public beta.

AndDrive: Seamlessly Connect Your Android Device and Mac

    • Platform: macOS
    • Keywords: File Management, Phone Management

@化学心情下2: While there are already plenty of tools that allow wireless file transfers between Android phones and computers, “transferring files” and “managing files” are two completely different things. For example, if you want to batch-delete screenshots stored inside the Pictures folder on an Android device, traditional transfer tools quickly become awkward to use. This kind of task is far better suited to a desktop file manager, where filtering and preview features make handling large numbers of files much more efficient.

On Windows, this requires no third-party software at all: simply plug in a cable, select “File Transfer,” and Android is mounted as an MTP device, allowing direct management just like a removable drive. On macOS, however, things become much more troublesome. Since MTP is a Microsoft-specific protocol, macOS can only access Android internal storage either through USB debugging or by relying on third-party MTP implementations. OpenMTP is probably one of the better-known options, but the project has not been updated for more than two years, stability is mediocre, and it relies on its own custom-built file manager instead of Finder, making the overall experience less intuitive.

So is there a tool that allows Android files to be managed directly through Finder? That’s exactly what AndDrive aims to do. Developed by an independent developer, AndDrive avoids the MTP route entirely and instead builds its file management system on top of Android’s official ADB debugging channel.

After installation, AndDrive lives in the macOS menu bar and supports both USB and Wi-Fi connection methods. Before using it, users need to enable ADB debugging on their Android device, authorize the current Mac, and install the companion app AndDrive Helper on the phone following the provided instructions. Once completed, the Android file system becomes directly visible inside Finder.

AndDrive offers several mounting modes, including SD card directory, root directory, or no mounting at all, with each mode exposing different content. The SD card mode only displays internal storage, while the root directory mode additionally exposes the system root directory — though without root access, many files still remain inaccessible. In daily use, users can directly preview files in Finder, filter them by date, or drag files from the Mac directly into Android folders. The experience feels far more intuitive than digging through files using Android’s built-in file manager.

Because it relies on ADB, AndDrive also includes built-in screen mirroring functionality. Clicking the “Screen Mirroring” option inside AndDrive instantly projects the Android device’s display onto the Mac, offering an experience similar to iPhone Mirroring on macOS. Users can directly interact with apps, perform Chinese-language searches, and even use features such as clipboard synchronization, screen recording, and screenshots. Compared to manually typing scrcpy commands, the barrier to entry is significantly lower.

Overall, while AndDrive does not use the more mature MTP protocol, it leverages Google’s officially recommended ADB method to make managing Android files directly inside Finder simple and practical, while also adding iPhone-style screen control features. For anyone with this kind of workflow need, it is definitely worth trying.

You can download AndDrive for free from the App Store.

Fauxx: A Privacy Tool That Fights Back Instead of Just Defending

    • Platform: Android
    • Keywords: Privacy Protection

@大大大K: Every search you make, every network request you send, and every bit of your location history is quietly being collected by data platforms and advertisers. They piece together these fragments to reconstruct your identity, preferences, habits, and even the people you interact with most often, before trading your data behind the scenes and feeding you highly targeted ads. That’s why after you or a friend casually search for something, within ten minutes nearly every app and website suddenly starts surrounding you with ads related to that exact topic.

Because of this, countless privacy protection tools have appeared on the market. Most of them follow the same strategy: “blocking” — blocking data uploads, intercepting cookies, masking IP addresses, and so on. But Fauxx takes a completely different approach. If advertisers insist on collecting data anyway, why not bury the real you inside a mountain of carefully generated “garbage” data?

The first time you open Fauxx, the app walks you through a setup process where you can optionally enter broad details such as your age range, profession, and interests. The main purpose is to help the app generate misleading profile data that intentionally contradicts your real identity, though you can also skip this step entirely if you want. Fauxx does not force you to provide any personal information. Once setup is complete, you simply enable the main switch to activate its data obfuscation system. The main interface then shows how many “confusion” actions Fauxx has performed recently, which fake persona is currently active, and what types of information are being distorted.

As for what exactly can be obfuscated, users can configure both intensity and categories through the “Targeting” and “Modules” tabs. The “Targeting” section offers three levels: the first generates noise data intentionally opposite to your real profile, or randomized fake information if you skipped setup entirely; the second attempts to directly interfere with advertiser profiling systems, though in my own testing this feature occasionally failed to load properly — fortunately without affecting overall usability; and the third introduces “persona rotation,” where Fauxx continuously cycles through fabricated identities to make tracking much more difficult.

Meanwhile, the “Modules” tab contains seven separate obfuscation modules that can each be enabled or disabled individually. Settings also allow users to adjust obfuscation frequency and define active time windows.

So how do these “fake data” streams actually fool advertisers? Normally, trackers embedded inside apps monitor device identifiers, IP addresses, DNS requests, and other signals to follow browsing behavior across a device and gradually build a user profile. Fauxx fights back by simulating human-like behaviors such as searches and link visits — including pauses while typing and even fake ad clicks — in order to bypass bot detection systems and successfully feed trackers false behavioral data.

In many ways, Fauxx completely flips the traditional philosophy of privacy protection, shifting from passive defense to active offense. If you want to take a different approach and make life a little harder for advertisers, you can download Fauxx for free from GitHub.

    Roll: Fresh Film Every Day

    • Platform: iOS
    • Keywords: Mobile Photography, Film Simulation

@Snow: These days, smartphone photography can branch into nearly infinite possibilities. Different lenses, different filters, different manual settings, different image adjustments, even different accessories — as long as you are willing to spend time experimenting, you can master almost any style you want. But more choices often bring more “decision paralysis.” If you are starting to feel overwhelmed by endless options, or simply do not enjoy constantly tinkering with settings in the first place, then Roll might help you rediscover the joy of simple photography.

Open Roll, complete the brief onboarding process, and you will receive your film stock for the day. The app gives a short description of the film’s characteristics — sensitivity, contrast, saturation, and more. Some film stocks bring warm golden tones beneath sunlight, some shimmer with rose-like hues, and others almost feel as though they are inviting you into a “Close Encounter of the Third Kind.”

Unlike the random film systems used by most photography apps, Roll gives every user exactly the same “dice roll.” No matter where you are in the world, everyone is shooting with the same film stock at the same moment. The remaining available time for the current film is displayed directly on the film description page. Since time is limited, all that’s left is to press “Load Film” and start shooting.

Roll does not ask you to switch lenses, tweak colors, or hesitate over endless creative decisions. The only optional feature it provides is a flash toggle for low-light environments. All you need to do is press the shutter button. And honestly, there is something oddly romantic about imagining strangers on the other side of the world creating photos with the exact same film filter at the same time.

Roll works quite well as a tool for documenting everyday life. But if you are looking for serious or highly professional creative work, its heavily stylized filters and fixed 1080 × 1080 output resolution will probably feel limiting.

You can download Roll for free from the App Store.

Sufei: Appreciating the Beauty of Classical Chinese Poetry

    • Platform: Android
    • Keywords: Poetry

@Peggy_: As a teacher, our workplace still maintains a tradition where every Monday each person writes on a small blackboard. Every week, the person in charge selects a poem fitting the season or occasion, and everyone carefully copies it down by hand. But honestly, after leaving high school behind, how many of us still actively appreciate classical Chinese poetry? Outside of studying or teaching requirements, voluntarily sitting down to read and analyze an ancient poem has become surprisingly rare nowadays. Yet every time I personally copy each line character by character, I still find myself amazed by the elegance and precision of ancient writing.

Sufei is a practical tool designed to help users appreciate and search classical Chinese poetry. Even from its calm and elegant name alone, it is easy to sense the quiet, refined beauty the developer is trying to convey. Upon opening the app, there are no noisy advertisements or overwhelming visual effects on the launch screen — only a simple message quietly appears: “Preparing rice paper for you.” And somehow, that alone makes you curious about what kind of poem is about to appear.

One of the app’s core features is presenting a randomly selected poem or ci every hour. In terms of page design, the interface uses a restrained and elegant background while focusing only on the title and one or two highlighted lines from the work itself. The developer chose a clean, readable serif font and arranged the text vertically, creating an atmosphere that feels much closer to traditional Chinese literature. By tapping anywhere on the main screen, users can view the poem’s full content, including annotations for difficult vocabulary, modern translations, and literary analysis. The app also provides historical background information for each work, helping users better appreciate poems they may not already be familiar with.

Sufei also allows users to search for any poem directly. Beyond basic search functions by title or author, the app includes an extensive tagging system organized by dynasty, literary style, and poetic themes, making it easy to quickly browse specific categories of poetry. For example, poems can be filtered into farewell poems, landscape poems, love poems, and more. Poets’ stylistic schools are also categorized separately, including bold and unrestrained styles versus delicate and restrained styles. Searching by dynasty, ci pattern names, and other literary classifications is equally supported. Tapping any tag immediately displays all related works within that category.

Of course, users still need to choose tags logically. Selecting combinations such as “Yuan Dynasty,” “Qinyuanchun,” and “Three Hundred Tang Poems” simultaneously will naturally return no results. By swiping left on the tag bar, users can enter the “Tag Plaza,” which also supports direct keyword searches for tags themselves. Searching for commonly used literary themes such as “expressing ideals through objects” or “criticizing the present through historical references” quickly returns relevant poems.

For works you particularly enjoy, you can tap the heart icon to save them at any time. All bookmarked poems are collected under a section called “By the Pillow.” As an app primarily focused on poetry display and discovery, Sufei’s design philosophy is remarkably restrained. The only customizable options are font size and line spacing, though users dissatisfied with the default color palette can also enable dynamic color extraction. One small drawback is that the sharing function currently supports only plain text exports. If future updates introduced several aesthetically matched share-card templates, it would probably become much easier for users to save and share their favorite lines.

If Sufei sounds interesting to you, you can download it through F-Droid and try it yourself. The app is completely free.

  • Qinghai Lake Road Trip Guide 2025: A 4-Day Journey Through Northwest China’s Most Stunning Landscapes

Qinghai Lake Road Trip Guide 2025: A 4-Day Journey Through Northwest China’s Most Stunning Landscapes

For me, a perfect trip is never just about visiting places that countless others have already checked off their lists. Instead, it holds three completely different experiences within it — the imagination and anticipation before departure, the intimate connection with nature during the journey itself, and the moment after returning home when you look back through the photos, rediscover details you never noticed at the time, revisit the memories, and dive into research that gives you a deeper understanding of the trip. So, through these words and photos, let us return once again to the beautiful Qinghai Lake.

The opportunity: As young people who had just started working, in the context of China’s work culture, the only truly no-questions-asked leave we can apply for is five days. Because of that, both I and the friends around me treasure those five days immensely, and every year, we carefully plan our annual trip while trying to avoid the crowds.

Since we needed to attend two weddings during the National Day holiday, we decided to first drive to Baoji for the wedding on the 2nd in order to save on transportation costs. We left Xiao P (my XPeng MONA M03 — you can refer to my previous article for more details) at Baoji High-Speed Railway Station. Considering that our schedule was relatively tight and that transportation and charging infrastructure around northwestern natural scenic areas might not be ideal, we chose to rent a car locally to complete the Qinghai Lake mini loop.

Armed with Baoji-style rolled noodles and roujiamo burgers, our group officially began the journey. Three and a half hours later, we arrived at Xining Railway Station. Entering a high-altitude region for the first time, none of us experienced any obvious discomfort. Conveniently, the car rental platform had pickup and drop-off points directly inside the underground parking lot of Xining Station, so we were able to load our luggage straight into the car and avoid the hassle of moving everything around repeatedly.

Day 1: Xining – Chaka | Total Distance: Approximately 457 km

    Xining – Kumbum Monastery
National 5A Tourist Attraction | Ticket: 70 RMB | Recommended Visit Time: Around 2 Hours

Kumbum Monastery is one of the most famous monasteries of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. Originally built during the Ming Dynasty, it was first constructed to commemorate Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelug tradition. According to legend, Tsongkhapa was born here, and later generations built a stupa at his birthplace in his honor. This is also how the monastery got its name — “Kumbum” roughly means “the place with a stupa.”

Kumbum Monastery – The Eight Auspicious Stupas

There are plenty of guides available both at the visitor center and near the monastery entrance, and the prices are quite reasonable. However, as someone who believes in materialism, I approached the site purely as a historical and cultural landmark and chose not to hire a guide. That said, if you are particularly interested in Tibetan Buddhism or the stories behind the monastery, hiring a guide may offer a much richer experience. Or, like me, you can revisit the photos afterward and slowly research everything in detail once you return home.

Tips: Guides will usually explain the “purpose” of different Buddha statues (I’m not sure if that’s the best way to describe it — perhaps more accurately, the things they are believed to bless or protect). Because of that, visitors may sometimes feel subtly pressured into donating money for good fortune. If that makes you uncomfortable, you can simply explore freely on your own as I did.

Since it was still before the holiday rush, there were not many tourists. The crowd felt evenly split between visitors and genuine pilgrims or monks coming to worship. Without overwhelming crowds everywhere, I was able to observe the monastery itself — and the people who had traveled from afar performing full-body prostrations — much more carefully.

    Monks arriving for pilgrimage

The moment you enter the monastery, the heavy scent of incense and the slightly stale smell of aging wooden structures lacking ventilation immediately fills the air. Looking at the towering Buddha statues and the neatly arranged prayer cushions lining the walls, you can genuinely feel a very different cultural atmosphere. The place feels quiet yet vividly alive. In particular, watching the believers who had come from who-knows-where performing prostrations along the way — despite their worn-out clothes from the long journey — made me feel that they must have realized something meaningful through all the hardship. Perhaps they did not even know why they set out in the beginning, but somewhere along the road, the answer slowly became clear.

The white stupa inside Kumbum Monastery
Donation area — keeping up with the times, QR code payments are also accepted

There are many temples of all sizes scattered throughout Kumbum Monastery, though to me, several of them felt fairly similar. After focusing on a few of the more notable ones, we headed back to Xining for a meal, stocked up on oxygen canisters, emergency food, and other supplies, and officially set off toward Qinghai Lake.

Nanshan Viewing Platform, Gonghe County, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture & Qinghai Lake Erlangjian Scenic Area
The former is free to visit, while the latter is a National 5A Tourist Attraction | Ticket: 72 RMB | Recommended Visit Time: Around 2 Hours

After finishing kangguo at around 1:30 PM in Xining, we began driving toward Qinghai Lake. About two hours later, we arrived at our main destination in the area — the southern scenic section of Qinghai Lake Erlangjian Scenic Area. Before entering the Erlangjian Scenic Area, you can first navigate to the “Nanshan Viewing Platform” to overlook the full panorama of Qinghai Lake and the distant mountain ranges from above. However, the mountain road is quite narrow, and construction trucks frequently pass through, so extra caution is necessary.

The scenic area itself does not really feature cultural attractions, though it was once an early torpedo testing base in China. Unfortunately, because we arrived rather late, we did not visit the museum and instead headed straight to the lakeside.

Qinghai Lake is the largest freshwater lake in China by surface area. The water is calm and vast, perfectly complementing the distant mountains and creating an incredibly open and beautiful landscape. Large, surprisingly clean pigeons perched along the railings. After taking countless photos from every imaginable angle, I leaned against the railing and watched the sunset spread across the land in the distance. The sound of birds and the wind filled my ears, while the noise of work and everyday life slowly faded away, leaving only pure immersion in nature.

Clouds, distant mountains, and grasslands formed a breathtaking layered “sandwich”
As the clouds parted and sunlight broke through, the grass by Qinghai Lake was still vividly green
Seagulls lining up by the shore, waiting to be fed “French fries”
    View of the pier

As night gradually fell, we left the Erlangjian Scenic Area and continued driving along Qinghai Lake toward Chaka, where we would stay for the night. Although the journey was only a little over 200 kilometers, it became the most thrilling and nerve-racking stretch of the entire trip. There were countless construction trucks along the way, ongoing road repairs in many sections, continuous U-shaped turns on certain mountain roads, and even stretches where traffic in both directions had to share a single lane. On top of that, we still needed to cross several mountain passes sitting at elevations of around 3,800 meters. The entire drive was tense and exhausting, and only around 10 PM did we finally arrive safely in Chaka Town. Fortunately, restaurants in town were still open, so we found a local spot, had a simple meal, and finally rested for the night.

    The Daotanghe–Chaka Highway after nightfall

Day 2: Chaka – Qilian County | Total Distance: Approximately 372 km

Chaka Salt Lake | National 4A Tourist Attraction | Round-Trip Mini Train Package: 167 RMB

“Chaka” means “salt pond” in Tibetan, and the area is famous for producing “Great Blue Salt.” Visiting the salt lake has also become one of the region’s signature tourist experiences. There are actually two scenic areas at Chaka Salt Lake. The older “Sky Mirror” area focuses mainly on natural scenery, while “Sky No.1” leans much more heavily toward commercial attractions. As out-of-town visitors, we were naturally more interested in seeing the original natural landscape, so we chose to visit the Sky Mirror scenic area.

The scenic area itself is enormous. If you want to fully explore every section, it’s best to reserve an entire day. I would recommend first taking the small train all the way to the final stop, Sky Mirror, which sits at the deepest part of the salt lake. The saltwater there is exceptionally clean and also the most photogenic. The park has thoughtfully set up many photo spots and installations, making it easy to spend a long time taking pictures. My only regret was not bringing a drone.

On sunny days, because both the sky and the ground are overwhelmingly white, the brightness can easily strain your eyes. I highly recommend wearing sunglasses. Through the lenses, the lake appears much greener and more transparent, almost like emerald.

The ticket package also includes rental shoe covers, allowing visitors to walk directly into the lake. Stepping on the large salt crystals feels surprisingly similar to walking on a beach. The scenic area is maintained extremely well and feels remarkably clean, making it easy to fully immerse yourself in nature.

Interestingly, perhaps worried that visitors might become bored surrounded by endless expanses of white salt flats, the park has placed numerous photography props throughout the area — including oversized National Geographic-style frames and other installations. Large screens also continuously play photography tips and pose suggestions, clearly hoping every visitor leaves satisfied.

The old salt mining tracks stretch deep into the lake. Viewed through sunglasses, the real-life colors are actually much darker and richer than they appear in photos.

    Massive salt sculptures

After leaving the salt lake, we took a short break in the county town before setting off toward Qilian County. After the tense drive the previous night, even though the national highways along the way were likely more scenic, we chose a route with more expressways instead. Fortunately, the road conditions on this stretch were excellent. Even the national roads had very little traffic, with long straight roads and incredibly open views. Grasslands, distant mountains, snow, and sky layered themselves clearly across the horizon. While driving, large groups of lambs and yaks would occasionally cross the road. There was no need to panic though — before long, local herders would appear on motorcycles, gently driving them along and speeding up their crossing.

Grasslands at dusk, with the setting sun illuminating distant snow-capped mountains

By nightfall, we finally arrived in Qilian County. After enjoying a local barbecue dinner in town, we drifted off to sleep, preparing ourselves for the third day of the journey.

Day 3: Qilian County – Gangshika Snow Mountain – Xining | Total Distance: Approximately 320 km

Zhuo’er Mountain Scenic Area | Ticket: 60 RMB | Shuttle Bus to the Summit: 20 RMB | Mountain Elevator: 10 RMB

This was without question the most breathtaking scenic area of the entire trip for me. Up close, you can see idyllic countryside landscapes that resemble a Swiss town; in the middle distance, stunning Danxia landforms spread out like a painting; and farther away, you can gaze toward the magnificent Amne Machin Dongso Snow Mountain (elevation: 4,695 meters). From the mountaintop, you can even take photos together with the snow-capped peaks in the background — grand, clean, and majestic.

Self-driving visitors can park in the scenic area’s parking lot and then take a shuttle minibus for about ten minutes to reach the ticket checkpoint.

The scenery on the two sides of Zhuo’er Mountain Scenic Area could not feel more different. One side is lined with endless snow mountains, while the other side looks like rolling hills and villages straight out of a Swiss countryside postcard.

    Amne Machin Dongso Snow Mountain
The opposite side of Zhuo’er Mountain, looking almost like a European town
    Danxia landforms blending into grasslands

What surprised me the most was that the scenic area had even built sightseeing elevators to make climbing easier. Ten yuan per ride, divided into roughly three sections — honestly, incredibly user-friendly.

    Scenic area elevator

Around noon, we left the scenic area. After a simple lunch at a Sichuan restaurant in Qilian County, we officially began driving toward the highest-altitude destination of this trip: Gangshika Snow Mountain.

While driving through the county town, we stopped at a red light and I noticed a Tibetan middle-school-aged boy staring at our Voyah Dreamer with sparkling eyes. It instantly reminded me of myself as a child, when I would stop and stare whenever I saw a car I liked or had never seen before, filled with curiosity and imagination. I hope that one day, he too can drive the car he loves and live the life he truly wants.

Gangshika Snow Peak Scenic Area | Free Admission | Shuttle Bus to the Mountain: 25 RMB

Gangshika Snow Mountain is located in Menyuan County, Haibei Prefecture, Qinghai Province. It is the highest peak in the eastern section of the Qilian Mountains and is often referred to as the “King of Snow Mountains.” Because the facilities and difficulty level are both relatively approachable, snow mountain enthusiasts also call it “the first snow mountain of your life.” The main peak reaches an elevation of 5,254.5 meters.

The visiting process is similar: park your car in the scenic area parking lot, then take a shuttle bus to the base of the mountain. The official sightseeing area itself already sits at an altitude of around 3,800 meters, so I would strongly recommend carrying an oxygen canister with you. After getting off the shuttle, you are greeted by the incredibly blue Lianxin Lake. Fed by glacial meltwater, the lake is pristine and icy-clear, standing in sharp contrast against the barren dark-brown tones of the surrounding alpine terrain. The scenery is stunningly beautiful.

    Lianxin Lake
When we arrived, the weather was not particularly good, and Gangshika Snow Peak was partially hidden beneath a layer of mist
Natural spring water — unfortunately, since we still had more traveling ahead of us, I did not dare risk an upset stomach by trying it
After leaving the scenic area, the snow mountain gradually revealed its true appearance. As for climbing it, I’ll leave that for another trip.

Following the traces left behind by ancient glaciers uphill, you can eventually reach the starting point for trekking and mountaineering routes on Gangshika Snow Peak. The scenic area also offers horses for rent, allowing visitors to continue deeper into the mountains with guides toward the colorful waterfall area. Due to time constraints and personal fitness considerations, however, we decided not to go too far. After wandering around the river valley for a while, we headed back down the mountain and began the return journey.

As evening approached, we set off back toward Xining. After an extravagant dinner at Haidilao Hot Pot, our joyful Qinghai Lake mini loop officially came to an end.

Day 4: Xining – Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum – Specialty Shopping

On the final day, accompanied by light drizzle, we took a taxi to the Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum. The museum itself is not particularly large, and even during the National Day holiday crowds were relatively light, but the exhibits were genuinely rich and fascinating. The walls were covered with intricate thangka paintings, alongside traditional Tibetan Buddhist monk robes that felt as though they had stepped straight out of a movie, as well as exquisite gold artifacts once used by Tibetan nobility. In the museum’s souvenir section, I bought a small prayer wheel, which I kept playing with throughout the journey home. Although I do not personally follow Buddhism, I still found it deeply interesting.

    Thangka paintings
    Four Kings Golden Cup
    Turquoise-Inlaid Golden Phoenix Headdress
Museum souvenir shop — prayer wheel. At 38 RMB it was not exactly cheap, but the craftsmanship was genuinely delicate and impressive.

Before leaving, in order to bring some souvenirs back for family and friends, we chose a supermarket-style gift shop and bought local specialties including beef jerky, saffron, goji berries, highland barley liquor, and other regional products. Whether they were truly worth the price or not, at least everything was clearly marked with fixed prices. After stuffing our suitcases full, we finally began the journey home smoothly.

    Epilogue

As my annual trip for 2025, I was extremely satisfied with this four-day Qinghai Lake mini loop. There were few crowds, no traffic jams, and the itinerary never felt rushed or overly exhausting. Along the way, we experienced local food and magnificent natural scenery, took turns driving with friends, talked about our impressions of the landscapes, took photos for each other, and commented on the food we ate. Although there were still occasional work calls interrupting the peace, overall the journey felt relaxed and carefree, allowing both body and mind to truly unwind. Everything felt quiet and serene, and the deep connection with nature stood in sharp contrast to the constant noise and chaos of Beijing.

As for transportation, self-driving was undoubtedly the best option. The route takes you deep into nature; although some roads are winding and rugged, they are still paved and generally accessible. Car rental companies such as Shenzhou Car Rental and eHi Car Services both have pickup and drop-off locations at Xining High-Speed Railway Station, making the process extremely convenient. More importantly, driving yourself gives you full control over the schedule and allows you to freely adjust the itinerary depending on how long you want to stay at each location.

For accommodation, since we had relatively high standards regarding cleanliness, we chose chain business hotels associated with the Huazhu Group ecosystem throughout the trip. Below are all the hotels we stayed at and their prices before the National Day holiday. Personally, I found them all very comfortable.

Day 0 — Orange Hotel Xining Railway Station Provincial People’s Hospital
    Twin Room — 331 RMB

Day 1 — Starway Chaka Salt Lake Hotel
    Oxygen-Enriched Twin Room — 314 RMB

Day 2 — Ibis Styles Haibei Qilian Zhuo’er Mountain Hotel
    421 RMB

Day 3 — Orange Hotel Xining Railway Station Provincial People’s Hospital
    Twin Room — 412 RMB

As for the overall cost of the trip, even including transportation expenses from Beijing, the total came to only around 3,000 RMB per person, which I would consider extremely cost-effective. The main expenses were simply the rental car and hotels.

    Expense overview

Regarding restrooms, facilities at both the scenic areas and roadside service stations were generally quite complete. Since there were women traveling with us, we had also prepared a portable toilet just in case, but throughout the entire journey we never actually needed to use it. Personally, I think anyone following a similar itinerary would not need to worry too much about this issue.

    Next Stop, Let’s Go!

The 2025 annual trip has come to an end, which means it is already time to start planning for 2026. Xinjiang or Hainan — wherever it may be, I hope it will once again take me far away from the noise, allowing me to enjoy the beautiful and magnificent landscapes of our country.

    When luck suddenly takes over!

@利兹与青鸟: Zhang Yi’ang, a police officer in Ping’an City, isn’t exactly competent, but he absolutely loves reciting poetry, often at the worst possible moments in ways that become unintentionally hilarious. Even after being reassigned to the retired cadres department, he still manages to create chaos everywhere he goes. By sheer coincidence, he picks up an anonymous举报 letter and is assigned alongside the equally eccentric Li Qian to Sanjiangkou to investigate whether the deputy director of the Public Security Bureau’s death hides deeper secrets. But Zhang Yi’ang’s sudden arrival is far from welcomed, and his work is restricted at every turn. Still, through a chain of absurd accidents, he somehow captures a wanted fugitive and unexpectedly earns everyone’s respect, gradually being elevated into the role of a “master detective.”

Meanwhile, two dimwitted thieves from Ping’an City come up with the brilliant idea of robbing corrupt officials and also arrive in Sanjiangkou. At the same time, Zhou Rong — the boss of a criminal syndicate operating in the city — is busy planning a new business venture while secretly investigating the death of his childhood friend Ye Jian, the captain of the criminal police squad. Three storylines and two murder cases (possibly more) slowly collide in Sanjiangkou, creating what promises to be a chaotic and explosive mess.

The series is adapted from the novel of the same name by Zi Jinchen, and right from the beginning it embraces a darkly comedic sense of absurdity. Criminals and police constantly overestimate one another, and although everyone’s IQ seems to drop offline every now and then, that doesn’t stop blind luck from producing bizarre successes. It leaves you curious to see just how many ridiculous coincidences this streak of “good fortune” can continue to create. Comedic actors like Ma Xudong, Yan Peilun, and Zhan Xin also help land the jokes effectively. Although the crime investigation storyline can feel a bit dragged out at times, the show still works well as entertaining comfort viewing.

    [K-Drama] Wish Your Death

    • Keywords: Drama / Horror

How far would you go to make your wishes come true?

@潘誉晗: The latest math exam results shocked everyone — Choi Hyung-wook somehow scored full marks, despite clearly not being the academic type. When his friends ask how he did it, Hyung-wook smugly shares a link to an app called “Girigo.” According to him, all you need to do is write down your birth information, attach it to your body, record a video, and upload it to the app. Your wish will then come true. Nobody really believes him, and Hyung-wook himself pays little attention to the mysterious countdown timer that suddenly appears on his phone. But 24 hours later, Hyung-wook hangs himself in front of the entire class — because this so-called wish-granting app always claims a life after fulfilling a wish.

Netflix Korea seems to have another breakout hit on its hands, with the series quickly climbing to No.1 in 13 countries after release. The pacing is extremely tight throughout, and the horror atmosphere is executed remarkably well, successfully blending high school youth drama with supernatural terror while cleverly tying together smartphone apps and shamanistic rituals. The mysterious deadly app feeds on teenage desires, gradually becoming an invisible prison no one can escape from. Not only can it not be deleted from your phone, but it also relentlessly closes in on every wish-maker until death finally arrives.

[British Drama] Good Omens Season 3

    • Keywords: Drama / Comedy / Fantasy
    • Also Known As: Good Omens Season 3
    • Runtime: 99 minutes
    • Where to Watch: Prime Video; Douban link

I have the universe, and I still have you. I already possess everything I could ever want.

@SHY:After becoming the Supreme Archangel, Aziraphale begins preparing for the “Second Coming,” only to discover that the resurrected Jesus has mysteriously disappeared. Left with no other choice, he turns to the self-destructive Crowley for help. Can this angel and demon duo, who have known each other since the beginning of creation, once again set aside their differences like they always have? And what kind of ending will the hidden forces manipulating everything behind the scenes ultimately bring upon the world?

Due to the sexual assault scandal involving original author and lead creative force Neil Gaiman, the final season was cut down into a single special episode, leaving the story with painfully limited room to breathe. Unsurprisingly, the finished version carries obvious traces of cuts everywhere. The uneven pacing, constantly swinging between rushed and sluggish, makes the narrative feel noticeably more chaotic, and the overall viewing experience suffers quite a bit because of it. Even so, despite all the altered and compressed material, the two new screenwriters still do their best to preserve the ending Gaiman originally envisioned, and within the fragmented remains, you can still glimpse flashes of inspiration.

Once the usual dark humor can no longer fully hold things together, the focus this season shifts toward what was originally a somewhat tongue-in-cheek love story between two immortal beings. David Tennant and Michael Sheen once again save the series through sincere performances and their endlessly strong on-screen chemistry. A thoroughly fan-oriented conclusion like this was always bound to divide audiences. Thankfully, the show was originally conceived as a limited mini-series anyway, so if this season’s direction feels difficult to accept, there’s nothing wrong with treating Season 1 as the true canonical ending.

We robbed the bank because we truly had no other choice.

@潘誉晗:One day, Rosa approaches her manager hoping to increase her credit card limit. Not only is her request quickly rejected, but she is also informed that her limit is being lowered because her credit score has been negatively affected by debts left behind by her ex-husband, who is currently in prison. Rosa can barely believe what she’s hearing, and at that exact moment, the bank alarm suddenly goes off — it turns out the bank is conducting one of its routine emergency drills. As she listens to her manager yelling for employees to prioritize saving their own lives, an unthinkable idea begins forming in her mind: she decides to rob the very bank where she works, together with her closest friends.

Released by Netflix France two months ago, Cash Queens is a female-led crime comedy about five women forced by desperate circumstances to disguise themselves as men in order to rob banks. The series is filled with situations that feel both absurd and painfully realistic. The five women at the center of the story work hard and genuinely try to live honest lives, yet happiness always seems out of reach. Workplace sexism, crushing debt, being sabotaged by colleagues and losing jobs, domestic abuse from husbands… Aren’t people always told that hard work leads to good outcomes? Why is it that for these women, the harder they try, the sadder life seems to become?

    [Film] Montreal, My Beauty

    • Keywords: Drama / LGBTQ+
    • Also Known As: Montréal, ma belle
    • Runtime: 117 minutes; Douban link

When trapped between worlds, do you confront your true self or continue living inside a lie?

@利兹与青鸟:Fengxia’s family immigrated to Canada more than a decade ago and now runs a small grocery store in Montreal, Quebec. Her husband is conservative and repeatedly struggles to find stable work due to lacking local qualifications. Her eldest daughter is deep in a rebellious phase and mostly responds to her parents with complaints and accusations. Her son is still only in elementary school, leaving no one in the family able to provide emotional support for Fengxia as she quietly suffers through menopause. During French classes, Fengxia becomes inspired by the younger students’ passion for chasing their dreams. She begins exploring LGBTQ+ dating websites and eventually meets Camille, a 30-year-old woman. Through this connection, Fengxia slowly rediscovers herself, but it also pushes her family toward crisis.

The film’s Chinese-Canadian female director clearly draws heavily from personal experience. Through generational clashes, marriages built more on responsibility than love, and the idea that caring for family often outweighs personal fulfillment, she presents the shell of a traditional yet deeply repressive immigrant Chinese family. Many of the actors are also local Chinese Canadians, and the Mandarin spoken throughout the film sounds natural and authentic, making it especially comfortable for Chinese-speaking audiences to listen to. Although the story revolves around a middle-aged woman searching for herself within moral gray areas, the film avoids dramatic slogans and emotional outbursts. Instead, it adopts a restrained, gentle style and a calm rhythm, giving Joan Chen ample room to perform. Her portrayal breathes life into Fengxia — a woman past middle age yet still naturally romantic, graceful, and quietly magnetic — delicately and subtly conveying the confusion and struggle hidden deep within her heart while drawing the audience fully into her emotional world.

[Anime] Dr. Stone: Science Future Part 3

We choose to go to the Moon.

@SHY:After a desperate struggle, the Kingdom of Science finally defeats the North American faction. Faced with an imminent threat, Senku and Xeno temporarily put aside their differences and join forces to build a spaceship capable of reaching the Moon in search of the truth behind humanity’s petrification. In order to revive more humans and secure essential materials, the group splits into three separate teams to carry out missions around the world. Meanwhile, the mysterious “WHY-Man” delivers an even more dangerous message.

From the Stone Age to modern civilization, spanning two million years of history, this scientific adventure built from absolute zero has finally reached its final chapter. Beginning with crude handmade tools crafted shortly after awakening, the series gradually reconstructed gunpowder, ironworking, steam power, electricity, and now, in this season, the technology tree has finally advanced into the age of computers and the internet. To achieve the ultimate goal of reaching the Moon, Senku and his allies now require manpower and resources on a scale far greater than before, pushing them into a globe-spanning journey to unite the strengths of different nations.

Even as raw materials evolve from stone into superalloys and the setting expands from tiny villages into outer space, the core appeal of the series remains unchanged. With rationality and curiosity as guiding principles, the story uses science to confront fantasy, delivering passionate moments filled with heroic spirit while carving a path toward humanity’s future and expressing a pure sense of romantic idealism. This “Apollo Program,” forged within a petrified world through the collective efforts of humanity, is genuinely exhilarating, and after everything the characters have endured, they deserve nothing less than the best possible ending.

[Documentary] Max Verstappen: A New Journey

    • Keywords: Documentary
    • Also Known As: Max Verstappen – New Ground / Speed New Horizons: Verstappen’s Journey on the Nordschleife
    • Runtime: Approximately 23 minutes per episode × 3 episodes; Douban link

    Let’s go, racers!

@潘誉晗:For Formula One fans, Max Verstappen is already an extraordinary name. Born into a racing family, his achievements on the track speak for themselves. But beyond his identity as a Red Bull driver, Verstappen actually lives another life as well — the owner and driver of a GT3 (Grand Touring 3) racing team. This three-episode documentary focuses on that second identity.

“Look, the boss is driving himself.” Verstappen carries none of the airs of a team owner. After greeting everyone, he simply heads straight onto the track. He also doesn’t crave all the applause and attention for himself, instead actively searching for new talent. That’s how he discovered Chris, a gifted young racer who, like Verstappen, started out in karting (and even raced with the number 3). However, lacking the €150,000 needed for professional training, Chris had no choice but to shift his dream toward simulator racing. When Verstappen finally invites him to test a real race car on track, Chris doesn’t even have a driver’s license yet.

After watching this documentary, it becomes impossible to deny Verstappen’s genuine passion for racing. He takes off the familiar Red Bull jacket and continues charging forward on another path within the world of motorsport.

    [Reality Show] Old Donggi Friends

    • Keywords: Reality Show
    • Also Known As: 구기동 프렌즈 / Six Singles Under One Roof
    • Runtime: Approximately 90 minutes per episode × 10 episodes; Douban link

    Let’s live together.

@潘誉晗:Korea has recently launched another reality show titled Old Donggi Friends, bringing together six celebrities around the same age — Jang Do-yeon, Jang Keun-suk, Ahn Jae-hyun, Lee Da-hee, Kyung Soo-jin, and Daniel Choi— to experience communal living together.

As celebrity observation-style programs become increasingly common, more and more viewers are naturally growing tired of the format. Yet Old Donggi Friends once again proves how creative Korean variety shows can still be. On the surface, it may seem like another fan-oriented celebrity reality program gathering familiar stars with established fanbases, but it finds an unexpectedly delicate angle: taking celebrities who once lived alone and placing them into a shared living environment.

Living alone often looks incredibly freeing from the outside, so why do people who have experienced that freedom sometimes no longer want to live by themselves? That question feels like the true purpose behind observation-style reality shows in the first place — exploring broader social themes. After all, “if something exists, there must be a reason for it.” The daily lives of these six stars born in the mid-1980s also turn out to be genuinely entertaining. They each have strong personalities, yet still manage to grow closer and naturally adapt to one another. Even though they’re all celebrities used to grand situations, they still panic helplessly and scream loudly when confronted with an 18-kilogram octopus.

Turns out living together might not be such a bad thing after all.

    [Film] The President’s Cake
@利兹与青鸟:Under Saddam Hussein’s dictatorship in Iraq, ordinary people struggle through unbearable hardship. Young girl Lamia lives in a hut woven from reeds, and even the apple in her schoolbag gets confiscated by her teacher. Worse still, she is chosen to bake a cream cake for the president’s birthday celebration. Lamia then embarks on a journey, trading away every valuable thing her family owns in exchange for the ingredients needed to make the cake. The film won the Caméra d’Or at last year’s Cannes Film Festival. Its cinematography is beautiful, the soundtrack is filled with rich Arabic influences, and beneath the touching innocence lies the terrifying cruelty of life during wartime Iraq.

    [Film] Hiraba no Tsuki
@潘誉晗:The film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Kasumi Asakura. One day, Aoto Ken unexpectedly reunites with his middle school classmate Sudo Yoko after 35 years apart. The two had feelings for each other back in middle school, and through this reunion, the divorced Aoto Ken and widowed Yoko finally come together. Set in a small town in Saitama, this long-delayed middle-aged love story feels like two incomplete halves finally finding one another. The atmosphere is restrained, calm, and tinged with gentle melancholy.

[K-Drama] The Absolute Value of Romance
@潘誉晗:Every night, seemingly ordinary high school student Yeo Yiju secretly writes BL novels. Unfortunately, nobody reads her work. One day, four young male teachers move in next door, giving her a sudden burst of inspiration. She begins writing stories based on the four of them, and the novels unexpectedly become a huge online hit. One of those teachers, Jia Yuxiu, also happens to be her math teacher. School dramas using teacher-student dynamics as a hook often create plenty of hilarious moments, and this series is no exception, making it perfect lighthearted entertainment for stress relief.

    [British Drama] The Agency
@潘誉晗:Kate, head of the Russia desk at MI6, receives intelligence suggesting that Russia has planted a mole inside the British government. Worse still, the Prime Minister announces his resignation due to cancer, and the mole is believed to be one of the two candidates competing to become the next Prime Minister. This new British political thriller leaves behind a deep sense of helplessness after watching, because politics is never as simple as black and white. Even when you discover who the mole is, there may still be nothing you can do.

[Anime] Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 4
@SHY:To remain in the Royal One classroom, the Misfit Class must have every first-year student reach Rank 4. After the Harvest Festival concludes, everyone begins preparing for their final opportunity to level up — the Music Festival — only to realize they’ve overlooked an important problem right in front of them. After hiding in the background for three seasons, the inconspicuous demon Soi finally takes center stage. Can Iruma successfully lead all 13 classmates onto the stage together? Continuing the formula of previous seasons, this installment once again delivers chaotic yet heartwarming everyday life in the demon world. Both the Music Festival and the fierce Akudol Games are packed with fun, bringing weekly doses of joy.

[Anime] Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of the Lord
@SHY:To protect her family, Myne chooses to become the adopted daughter of the Lord of Ehrenfest, stepping into noble society under the name Rozemyne. A new identity and an entirely new set of rules await her, but her passion for books remains unchanged as she continues moving forward. WIT STUDIO, a company often known for abandoning projects halfway through, surprisingly took over this light novel adaptation after dropping several major IPs. Although the season faced backlash for using AI-generated visuals in the opening sequence backgrounds, the overall production quality has improved significantly compared to the previous three seasons. The pacing has also slowed down, allowing the worldbuilding and charm of the original source material to shine through much more effectively.

    Mianxiaoniu Pure Cotton T-Shirts

    • Reference Price: ¥18

Friends, I’ve finally found the ultimate cheap-and-good T-shirt.

A while ago, I got rid of a bunch of T-shirts that I’d been wearing for years or that had already lost their shape, so naturally I needed to restock. During my search, I came across this store. Originally, I was buying their shirts with the mindset of them being disposable basics — something you wear a couple of times and toss away. But the quality turned out to be surprisingly good, far beyond my expectations, so I absolutely have to rave about them in this edition of New Stuff.

Their T-shirts use a very standard, versatile cut, and even the 320g version already feels quite thick and substantial while still being soft and comfortable to wear. I bought several colors including Klein blue, forest green, navy, and gray, and every single one looks vibrant and well-saturated rather than cheap. What’s even more impressive is that despite being heavyweight pure cotton shirts, they barely shrank after washing and don’t noticeably fade. In terms of quality, I genuinely have no complaints. At first I was planning to try their 400g version too, but after wearing the 320g one, I realized there was really no need — it’s already soft enough while still feeling durable.

The gray version looks like this.

Another advantage of these blank-style T-shirts is that the fit is basically unisex. Personally, I prefer wearing oversized clothes, so I bought one size larger than the store recommended. Considering how cheap these shirts are, even if you don’t wear them outside, buying a few oversized ones as sleepwear at home is honestly not a bad idea.

The colors from this store are all lively and vibrant without looking tacky at first glance. It feels like they’ve actually done market research and understand younger people’s preferences. Their main product is clearly these blank T-shirts, though they also sell sweatshirts, hoodies, and similar basics. The whole store really does look like a factory-direct operation. It’s a shame they don’t sell athletic pants, otherwise I’d probably stock up on several pairs too — definitely more reliable than randomly buying from different stores and platforms.

Another benefit of the low price is that if you’re traveling, you can buy several shirts in different colors and wear a different one every day. It would probably make vacation photos more fun too.

Given how developed China’s apparel manufacturing industry is these days, there are probably tons of similar stores on e-commerce platforms. I’ll leave a link here so you can jump directly to it, though you can also expand your search based on your own preferences. In any case, from a practical standpoint, these cheap, simple white-label T-shirts are already surprisingly comfortable to wear and are perfect for stocking up on ahead of summer.

    Bambu Lab X2D 3D Printer

    • Reference Price: ¥5099.15 (Multi-Color Printing Bundle)

Good grief, Bambu Lab had barely finished launching the Bambu Lab P2S before the Bambu Lab X2D arrived. Even though my few months with 3D printing have been very much “lazy user” territory — I mostly just print models made by other people and almost never touch parameter tuning — I still brought the X2D home immediately.

The overall design and performance of the X2D are not dramatically different from the P2S, and many parts are even interchangeable, so I won’t repeat the basic printing experience here. If you’re interested, you can check out the P2S write-up I previously shared in New Stuff:https://sspai.com/post/105458

Compared with the P2S, the X2D mainly adds several key features. First, it now has two print nozzles: one primary nozzle and one auxiliary nozzle. To reduce the size and weight of the print head, only the primary nozzle is equipped with an extruder mounted directly on the head, while the auxiliary nozzle’s extruder becomes a separate external module. Under this “remote extrusion, close output” structure, the two nozzles have slightly different printing characteristics. The primary nozzle uses a servo motor for extrusion, while the auxiliary nozzle uses a stepper motor, meaning the primary nozzle supports a wider range of materials, offers finer detail control, and achieves higher printing efficiency.

The external extruder mounted behind the X2D

Secondly, the X2D adds an active chamber temperature control system, allowing it to print a wider range of engineering-grade materials. The machine now includes dual air intake ports, enabling chamber temperatures to rise and fall faster and more accurately than on the P2S. On top of that, the X2D also comes bundled with an external air purification module. This upgrade works alongside the chamber temperature system to reduce odors during high-temperature printing.

The external air purification module — likely something P2S users can also buy separately

So, you can basically think of the X2D as the Pro version of the P2S. It still handles everyday printing needs effortlessly, while also giving you room to experiment with industrial-grade materials and more product-oriented creative projects.

From actual day-to-day use, I mainly noticed two things. First, dual-nozzle printing dramatically simplifies support structures. For example, my primary nozzle is connected to the AMS and prints only PLA, while the auxiliary nozzle is dedicated to PETG. This creates excellent separation between the support material and the main print, making supports incredibly easy to remove without carefully picking at them with tools for ages, which saves a ton of time and effort. Second, the active chamber temperature system noticeably improves print quality. I previously encountered warping issues at certain angles on some models when using the P2S, but those problems disappeared entirely on the X2D.

One of Bambu Lab’s recommended setups is mixing PLA with PETG supports, which makes support removal extremely easy
The detail quality is seriously impressive!

Overall, if you want a 3D printer suitable for home use, the Bambu Lab X2D is already about as high-end as it gets. For users like me who mostly want to print finished products to solve practical daily-life problems, Bambu Lab’s biggest strengths remain the same: easy setup, reliable operation, and consistently solid print quality. For users who want to seriously explore 3D printing, run projects, or even start a print farm, the X2D’s performance is also strong enough to satisfy most needs and creative ambitions.

Oh, and Bambu Lab recently introduced a new material called PLA Pure, which focuses on food-grade safety and can supposedly be used for items like tableware and children’s toys. This is actually a material I’ve been waiting for for a long time — I’ve wanted to print a food bowl for my cat for ages. I already received the new filament but haven’t started using it yet. If I have any thoughts after trying it out, I’ll write a follow-up later.

    @怡宝:OASEAR Witch Pro HiFi Earphones

    • Reference Price: ¥522

    A warm-toned anime-style IEM

I originally approached this with a simple mindset: if I’m just buying something for commuting and casual listening, it at least has to look good. That’s how I ended up getting the OASEAR Witch Pro. Honestly, the first thing that caught my attention was the pink “Taoyao” model from the same lineup, but after debating for a while, I decided I wanted to try the upgraded “Witch” version instead.

    Appearance

The “Witch Pro” uses a dark purple semi-transparent resin shell with a very smooth and refined texture. Comfort and lightweight design both deserve praise. Personally, I prefer integrated in-ear designs, and these didn’t cause any ear pressure even after wearing them continuously for two hours. I used the smallest included ear tips, and they still didn’t press against my relatively flat ear shape, so I’d say they’re friendly for people with smaller ears.

    Listening Experience

Since these are clearly vocal-focused ACG earphones, I started testing them with 茜さす by Aimer. Aimer’s slightly husky voice pairs extremely well with the warm tuning of these earphones, fully conveying the sorrowful “crying voice” quality in her singing. The indescribable loneliness in the lyrics somehow gains an unusual sense of warmth and healing here. Once the strings enter, however, one limitation caused by the earphones’ resolving ability becomes more noticeable: the separation between instruments is not especially sharp, but in exchange, the overall presentation feels more enveloping and immersive.

Next, I listened to 夜に駆ける by YOASOBI. The “Witch Pro” really shines with smaller arrangements and vocal-focused tracks. When things get busier, instrument separation starts struggling a bit, with bass and synth layers occasionally overlapping. The high-frequency extension is still fairly good though — violin overtones retain an airy feeling without sounding harsh, and most importantly, the vocals never get buried. Comparatively speaking, the “Witch Pro” feels much better suited for solo vocal and ethereal-style ACG tracks rather than extremely noisy electronic-heavy anime music.

As someone with fairly broad music tastes but a preference for soul and R&B, I also listened to The Show Must Go On by Bruno Major. The balance between vocals and accompaniment was handled nicely, with soft drum hits and an intimate close-to-the-ear vocal presentation that fits the song’s emotional atmosphere of confronting regret.

    Other Notes

The “Witch Pro” has an impedance of 20Ω and can easily be driven directly, though the volume output is surprisingly high, so I usually keep it at around half my normal listening volume.

For daily use, I pair it with the Moondrop Dawn Pro dongle DAC from Moondrop connected to my phone. It supports both 3.5mm and 4.4mm outputs with dual decoding, and at a little over ¥200, the value for money is excellent.

    Final Thoughts

The “Witch Pro” uses a hybrid configuration with one dynamic driver and one balanced armature driver. While the treble is not especially bright, the bass extension goes deep enough without becoming overwhelming. Its real strength lies in the midrange, which sounds smooth, warm, and delicate. Emotional expression in love songs comes through especially well, making it a great fit for listeners with broad music tastes. Overall, this is a warm, atmospheric, and airy pair of earphones that delivers a very “ASMR-like” listening experience.

@巴斯: Decathlon TILT 120 folding bike

    • Reference price: ¥1299

I recently picked up the Decathlon TILT 120 folding bike and have been riding it over the past few weekends. My takeaway: it may not be perfect, but at around the $200 price range, it’s probably the best value folding bike you can get—and one of the most suitable options for getting around the city.

From placing the order to having it delivered, it only took a day and a half. The bike comes in a large box and requires almost no setup—just unfold it, lock the “joints,” and you’re ready to ride. It truly delivers on the promise of “buy and ride.” As a beginner cyclist, I dislike complicated assembly, and anything that delays getting out the door quickly drains my enthusiasm. This bike is incredibly easy to get started with, which is one of the main reasons I chose it. It uses a classic mid-fold design, and the process is very smooth:

    1. Release the hinge in the middle of the frame
    2. Fold down the handlebar
    3. Bring it together and secure it with the magnetic latch
    4. Go

After trying it multiple times, I can confirm it’s easy to unfold within 30 seconds as advertised. Once folded, it fits easily into a car trunk or a corner of a café. Whether it’s short cross-city trips or a casual ride out for coffee, you don’t have to worry about theft, and it doesn’t take up much space at home either—very convenient for storage.

As for the riding experience, despite its compact appearance, the bike weighs 14.5 kg. The high-carbon steel frame gives it a reassuring heft, making the ride more stable while also providing some shock absorption. Going over speed bumps doesn’t feel overly bumpy.

The 560 mm handlebar width offers a comfortable reach for my arms. Although the TILT 120 sits at the entry-level end of folding bikes, it comes with a 6-speed gear system. It may not sound like much, but it’s more than enough for urban riding. I usually stay in gear 4 for flat roads, shift to gear 2 for uphill sections, and gear 6 when going downhill. Overall, the performance feels stable and gives me a strong sense of control and safety.

So far, I’m very satisfied with it. I mainly wanted something for casual weekend rides, but it turns out to be suitable for many scenarios. If you’re tired of the hassle and cost of shared bikes, or fed up with crowded subway rides, you might want to give this kind of healthy and controllable way of getting around a try—the scenery along the way might just quietly heal your entire day.

  • Garmin Instinct 3 Solar Review: The Last Smartwatch I May Ever Need

Garmin Instinct 3 Solar Review: The Last Smartwatch I May Ever Need

When it comes to smartwatches, the first one that truly left an impression on me was the Moto 360. The reason was simple: it ran an open Android-based system that could install all kinds of apps — and that was back in 2014.

Over the years, I’ve tried the TicWatch, Samsung smart bands, G-Shock, and the Pixel Watch 2, but every one of them had something that left me unsatisfied.

Take the two watches I wore for the longest time, for example: the G-Shock GW-B5600, powered by solar charging and radio-controlled timekeeping, could practically go a decade without worrying about battery life. It was rugged and reliable. But it couldn’t satisfy my needs for health tracking and smartphone notifications.

Later, I switched to the Pixel Watch 2. Its workout and sleep tracking, along with the ecosystem integration, felt incredibly polished. But that anxiety-inducing battery life once forced me to charge it in the least graceful way possible while spending a night at the airport waiting for an early morning flight.

After using both of these watches, I realized that what I needed wasn’t an Android smartwatch packed with features but crippled by short battery life, nor a simple digital watch with incredible endurance.

What I needed was a hybrid: a watch with ultra-long battery life, professional-grade fitness and health tracking, and the ability to view smartphone notifications. At the same time, it also had to look good, feel durable, and stay lightweight.

Then, in January 2025, Garmin released the Instinct 3 Solar. And for the first time, I felt like I finally understood what kind of watch truly belonged on my wrist.

    Function-Driven Design

One of the biggest reasons I was drawn to the Pixel Watch before was its appearance. The dual-sided 3D glass paired with a metal frame gave it a clean yet lively look. That kind of design works great for touch interaction and feels premium, but the trade-offs are weaker structural durability, glass that scratches easily, and touch controls that become unreliable when wet.

Looking back at the Instinct 3, it is built around one thing: toughness and durability. There is not a single overly decorative design element for the sake of appearance alone.

Since it does not rely on touchscreen interaction, the Instinct 3 recesses the display beneath the plastic bezel. Around the outer edge of the display glass is an orange aluminum alloy ring, designed to further improve the overall structural strength.

Combined with its 10 ATM water resistance rating, the Instinct 3 is probably the most rugged smartwatch in its price range right now.

Another defining characteristic of the Instinct series is its fully button-based operation. Every interaction is handled through five physical buttons. Considering outdoor scenarios where users may be wearing thick gloves, Garmin made the buttons large and tactile, with crisp feedback when pressed.

To reduce accidental presses, the two buttons on the right side are separated by their own protective frame, while the three buttons on the left use two raised ridges as guides, making it incredibly easy to locate them by feel alone.

Combined with an extremely ergonomic button layout (one on the right, one on the left), the controls become more intuitive and convenient than tapping a screen once you get used to them.

The Instinct 3 uses a fiber-reinforced polymer case. It may not look as refined as a metal case, but it is rugged, durable, and does not interfere with wireless signals like GPS or Bluetooth.

The sensor area on the back protrudes slightly on its own, paired with inward-curving lugs, allowing the sensors to stay firmly against the skin without needing to tighten the strap excessively. This avoids the common issue on other smartwatches where the watch shifts during sleep and leaks green light across your wrist in the middle of the night.

Speaking of light, the Instinct 3 features a dual-color LED flashlight at the top. Double-pressing the Light button turns it on instantly, and it is dramatically brighter than the makeshift flashlight mode on typical smartwatch displays, making it genuinely useful.

The Instinct 3 gives me the feeling that its functions were defined first, and its design came afterward. Refined elegance in form was never the top priority — durability, reliability, and practicality were. In the end, through nothing more than plastic and aluminum alloy, it manages to deliver a uniquely premium aesthetic.

Using this much plastic without feeling cheap — that is the power of design.

    The Longest-Lasting Smart Sports Watch

Battery life is one of the biggest reasons I chose the Instinct 3. With my current setup (automatic backlight enabled, heart rate monitoring on, workout tracking enabled, and connected to my phone for notifications), a single charge lasts me 21 days. Charging itself is also fairly quick — going from 10% to 100% takes roughly 90 minutes.

That level of endurance is something most smartwatches cannot achieve even in their most stripped-down battery saver modes.

What is even more impressive is that the Instinct 3 supports solar charging. According to Garmin, just three hours of direct outdoor sunlight per day at 50,000 lux is enough to achieve effectively unlimited battery life.

In my own testing, leaving the Instinct 3 under the winter afternoon sun for three hours increased the battery by around 8%, while my average daily battery drain is only about 5%. In actual use, whether it was around eight or nine in the morning or four or five in the afternoon, as long as sunlight could directly hit the watch face, charging efficiency consistently reached 100%.

In other words, as long as I spend enough time outdoors and the watch face receives more than three cumulative hours of direct sunlight, I can still come home with an extra 3% of battery left at the end of the day.

From this perspective, the Instinct 3 is without question the longest-lasting smart sports watch available right now, thanks to Garmin’s two biggest advantages: its proprietary RTOS operating system and Power Glass solar charging technology.

RTOS Is the True God of Outdoor Watches

The Instinct 3 runs on Garmin’s in-house RTOS, a system refined and optimized over decades. In terms of functionality and stability, it sits firmly among the top tier in the industry, and it also has a fairly mature third-party app ecosystem.

And precisely because of that long history, Garmin’s system interaction can feel somewhat complicated, lacking the trendy polish of brands like Suunto or COROS. But when it comes to power efficiency, their RTOS systems are miles ahead.

RTOS stands for Real-Time Operating System, and at the fundamental level it works very differently from the general-purpose operating systems (GPOS) we use every day, such as Android or Windows.

RTOS is built around extreme determinism. It has no bloated background services or flashy UI layers. It manages every task with precision, waking the processor only when necessary and putting it back to sleep immediately afterward. This highly targeted way of operating dramatically reduces power consumption.

GPOS, on the other hand, is designed around versatility and visual polish. It carries the burden of countless background services and complex graphical rendering. Because the system overhead is so heavy, waking from sleep becomes expensive, making it difficult to instantly sleep and wake like an RTOS system. Most of the time, it has to stay running at relatively high power consumption, so battery drains away like flowing water.

If we compare them to people, RTOS is like a cold, hyper-efficient worker: no morning grumpiness, no staying up late, falls asleep instantly, wakes up and immediately gets to work, finishes the task and goes right back to sleep. No sweet talk, just pure efficiency. GPOS, meanwhile, is like the rest of us exhausted corporate workers: struggling to get out of bed, lying awake at night, sleeping poorly, constantly making flashy presentations and saying all the right things. It looks glamorous on the surface, but underneath it is running on low energy all the time.

Of course, there are many watches that use RTOS systems, and some products from brands like Xiaomi and Amazfit can deliver smooth and visually polished UI experiences as well. But none of them can match the battery life that Garmin delivers.

If you want to balance battery life, functionality, and professional-grade sports features all at once, there are basically only three companies left: Garmin, Suunto, and COROS. Among them, COROS does not offer a solar-powered model, and Suunto has also abandoned solar charging on its latest Vertical 2. That leaves only Garmin still fully committed to pushing solar technology forward.

Inside Garmin’s Power Glass Solar Technology

The world’s first solar-powered watch was the Synchronar 2100 released in 1972. Its surface featured two massive monocrystalline silicon solar panels, forcing the LED display to be positioned on the side instead — a compromise that accidentally gave it an incredibly futuristic appearance.

Even today, most solar-powered watches still follow a similar design philosophy: placing solar cells directly on the watch dial.

There are generally two main approaches. One uses a translucent dial with the solar cells placed underneath it, like the example on the left above. The other places a ring of solar cells around the inner bezel, allowing the watch to use far more elaborate opaque dials, like the example on the right.

Among Japan’s three major watchmakers, Seiko mainly adopts the first approach, while Casio and Citizen both use a mix of the two. My previous G-Shock GW-B5600 was closer to the second design.

Garmin took a completely different route. Their solution is called “Power Glass,” officially known as solar charging transparent lens technology. Instead of relying on those thick, bulky black solar panels, the entire surface becomes transparent glass. I even asked “Teacher G” to help create a rough illustration for everyone — if you are interested, it is worth taking a closer look.

Simply put, Garmin cuts the solar cells into a microscopic mesh structure and embeds them directly into the glass panel. To the naked eye, the pattern is almost invisible, making the surface appear completely transparent. In the non-display areas of the watch face, however, this “mesh” becomes effectively “solid,” ensuring overall solar charging efficiency remains high.

It is also worth mentioning that the Instinct 3 uses Corning Gorilla Glass as well, likely a customized version from the DX series. Compared to ordinary glass, surface reflectivity is reduced by roughly 75%, allowing more light to reach the solar layer, while scratch resistance is on par with sixth-generation Gorilla Glass.

While researching patents, I discovered something quite interesting: the original applicants behind this entire series of transparent solar panel patents were actually a French company called SunPartner Technologies. These patents were only transferred to Garmin in 2019.

Back in 2011, SunPartner Technologies introduced a transparent solar film called Wysips. The company claimed you could simply apply it like a screen protector to charge your phone, which caused quite a sensation at the time. Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties, the company filed for bankruptcy in 2019.

One of its biggest customers back then happened to be Garmin, so Garmin took the opportunity to acquire most of its patents and assets. In August of the same year, Garmin launched its first solar-powered smartwatch, the fēnix 6X Pro Solar, which also suggests that the two companies had already been working closely together long before the acquisition.

Even today, this remains a uniquely specialized business. As Garmin continues refining the technology, Power Glass keeps improving in solar efficiency, the glass panels become increasingly transparent, and production costs continue to fall. Without question, this is currently the most advanced solar solution available for mobile devices.

It is precisely this technological moat that has allowed Garmin to become the only company capable of delivering near-infinite battery life on a smart sports watch.

Of course, every technology comes with trade-offs, and Power Glass is no exception. First, its energy generation efficiency still cannot match traditional solar cells, nor can it harvest weak ambient light like moonlight or indoor lighting the way some Citizen watches can. Second, the glass itself is not perfectly transparent, which slightly affects the contrast and viewing angles of the MIP display.

Packed With Features, Powered by Customization

In terms of sheer functionality, the Instinct 3 is easily the most feature-rich watch I have ever used. The official website lists its capabilities in incredible detail, and I genuinely believe 99% of users can find everything they want here.

But because there is so much functionality, the learning curve is undeniably higher as well.

As mentioned earlier, every operation on the Instinct 3 is handled through those five buttons. On such a small screen, quickly navigating through hundreds of features to find exactly what you want is not always easy.

Thankfully, the Instinct 3 offers an extremely deep level of customization. Every page, every list, every button can be adjusted to match your own habits and workflow.

If you are lazy like me, though, the default factory settings are honestly good enough. Just customize the “Activities & Apps” page with the functions you use most often, and you are basically set.

Take cycling as an example — the Instinct 3 already has everything it should. Its biggest advantage lies in satellite acquisition speed. Usually, just a few seconds after starting a cycling activity, positioning is already locked in, and the accuracy is excellent. Even in dense urban environments surrounded by skyscrapers, the GPS remains extremely precise without drifting at all. No surprise there, considering Garmin originally built its reputation on aviation navigation technology.

ABC is one of my favorite features. Long-pressing the “Down” button instantly opens it, showing your current altitude and compass heading. Scrolling through the pages also lets you check recent changes in barometric pressure and elevation over time.

In reality, most mid-range and high-end smartwatches already include these ABC sensors. The difference is that Garmin makes them much easier to access directly, without forcing you to dig through an app list.

The Instinct 3 uses Garmin’s Elevate V4 heart rate sensor, which supports HRV tracking and strikes a solid balance between accuracy and power efficiency. For most people, it is already more than sufficient.

While Garmin’s newer V5 sensor is more advanced — supporting ECG and skin temperature tracking with even better accuracy — it also consumes more power. Of course, the bigger reason is product positioning: the V5 sensor is reserved for flagship models, and the Instinct 3 has not quite earned that status yet.

I’m Burned Out — and It Knows

Finally, let’s talk about the sleep and health tracking features that today’s exhausted corporate workers probably care about the most.

The Instinct 3 covers all the basics: abnormal heart rate alerts, sedentary reminders, stress level notifications, sleep HRV, sleep stage tracking, sleep scores, and more. The data is also presented in great detail, so there is really nothing to worry about in this area.

What stands out more is that Garmin introduced a concept called “Body Battery,” which feels a bit like the health bar in a video game.

“Body Battery” drains throughout the day based on your physical activity and stress levels. This includes passive activities like sitting around doing nothing, as well as walking, running, and other workouts. Higher stress levels consume even more energy. Resting and sleeping, meanwhile, recharge it. Broadly speaking, it follows a cycle of draining during the day and recovering at night.

And this is where the algorithm becomes almost magical: it can quantify both physical and mental exhaustion — and it is surprisingly accurate. For example, after working nonstop until 11 PM and feeling completely destroyed, I check the watch and see my Body Battery sitting at 10. Or after spending an entire day walking around shopping, feeling absolutely drained, I look down and find it at 5.

Based on this data, the Instinct 3 provides systematic recommendations for things like sleep duration and workout intensity. After several consecutive days of high-intensity work, it may suggest getting more sleep and doing lighter recovery exercises. On the other hand, if you spend days barely moving and oversleeping, it will remind you to increase your activity level and cut back on sleep a little.

I think this is what makes Garmin truly unique. It does not scold me for failing to hit a step goal after a long exhausting day, nor does it create anxiety around numbers. Instead, it makes the data work for the person.

Independent Enough, but Not Smart Enough

Unlike many smartwatches, the Instinct 3 is not merely an accessory for your phone. It can independently handle the vast majority of its functions, only requiring a phone for internet-dependent tasks such as notifications and system updates.

On the positive side, the Instinct 3 remains a fully functional watch even without a phone nearby. It can even sync its time through GPS. On the downside, its connection with the phone feels surprisingly weak, which makes it seem less “smart” overall.

By the way, the Instinct 3 can sync its data with the Apple Health app on the iPhone, so the ecosystem integration is still fairly complete.

Take something as basic as sleep mode, for example. Unlike products from Google or Apple, it cannot directly sync your system sleep schedule, Do Not Disturb settings, or alarms. Forget about automatically handling holiday schedules as well. Its scheduling system only understands Monday through Sunday, meaning you have to manually configure everything yourself. Even though you only need to set it up once, it still feels unnecessarily tedious.

Then there is automatic activity detection. I found it performs terribly with fragmented activities. A 20-minute bike ride, a 20-minute nap, or a one-hour walk simply will not be recognized or recorded automatically. The Instinct 3 follows your predefined schedule very rigidly: nighttime sleep is considered sleep, but taking a long afternoon nap will not be recorded at all.

It does include a nap feature, but honestly, I do not think it works very well either. For low-energy people like us, when it is time to sleep, we just collapse instantly — nobody remembers to manually start a nap recording on their watch.

Notifications on the watch are also strictly view-only. You cannot reply to messages, you cannot take phone calls directly from the watch, and you definitely should not expect to browse WeChat or anything similar on it. You could say the Instinct 3 has essentially zero entertainment features.

    The Endgame for Smartwatches

More than a decade ago, driven by the fear of missing out — FOMO — I wanted a smartwatch that could keep me constantly connected to the world. But now, all I want is distance from the noise and the ability to quietly enjoy life.

The Instinct 3 Solar helped me break the habit I developed with the Pixel Watch 2 of endlessly swiping at the screen for no reason. It truly achieves something rare: not fighting for my attention.

Most of the time, it simply behaves like a long-lasting ordinary watch that only needs charging once every two or three weeks. I raise my wrist only to check the time, while useless notifications stay hidden away, giving me back control over my own life.

Its smart features work quietly in the background, almost invisibly. Most of the time it stays silent, yet whenever I actually need it, it appears at exactly the right moment: morning sleep feedback, nighttime reminders to go to bed earlier, relaxation suggestions during periods of high stress, and the instantly accessible LED flashlight that is always there when needed.

We live in an era obsessed with “fast-food” products, where most devices are designed to grab your attention as quickly as possible — some companies practically want you replacing them every single year.

Compared to that, the philosophy behind the Instinct 3 Solar — long-term durability and ultra-long battery life — feels increasingly rare and valuable. In fact, I cannot think of a real alternative to it anymore. And I think that is why this is the final chapter of my smartwatch journey.

    Tencent’s Acquisition of Ximalaya Approved

On May 12, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation announced that it had approved Tencent Holdings’ acquisition of Ximalaya through a decision with additional restrictive conditions attached. The regulator stated that the merger could potentially create anti-competitive effects within China’s online audio streaming platform and online music streaming platform markets. As a result, Tencent, Ximalaya, and the post-merger entity are required to make five restrictive commitments. These commitments include not raising service prices for online audio streaming platforms, not lowering service quality or imposing unreasonable transaction conditions, not reducing the proportion of free or popular free content on online audio platforms, and not entering into exclusive licensing agreements with copyright holders. The regulator stated that these commitments would help mitigate competition concerns caused by the acquisition while protecting the interests of consumers, copyright owners, content creators, and automobile manufacturers. Authorities also stated they would supervise both parties to ensure compliance with the imposed commitments. Source

Spotify Launches 20th Anniversary Recap Page

On May 12, Spotify celebrated its 20th anniversary by launching a limited-time personalized recap experience. Users can search for “Spotify 20” or “Party of the year(s)” within the app to access it, where they can view when they joined Spotify, the first song they played, their favorite artist, and the total number of songs they’ve listened to over time. Users can also save a personalized 120-track playlist ranked by their own listening counts.

Spotify stated that the feature is available globally but will only remain accessible for six weeks. Last month, the company also released cumulative 20th anniversary platform rankings, with Taylor Swift currently holding the title of the most-streamed artist in Spotify history. The rankings also included the most-streamed albums, songs, and podcasts as of last month. Source

    eBay Rejects GameStop Acquisition Proposal

eBay has officially rejected GameStop’s previously proposed $56 billion unsolicited acquisition offer. Last week, GameStop proposed acquiring eBay at $125 per share, representing a 20% premium over eBay’s current stock price. The proposed deal structure consisted of half cash and half GameStop stock. However, GameStop’s current market capitalization stands at roughly $11 billion — less than a quarter of eBay’s approximately $45 billion valuation. Although GameStop had also planned to raise $20 billion through debt financing, CEO Ryan Cohen later failed to provide detailed explanations regarding the remaining funding sources required for the acquisition. eBay stated that it had thoroughly reviewed the proposal, expressing major concerns over financing feasibility and debt pressure. eBay Chairman Paul Pressler additionally described the offer in a letter as “neither credible nor compelling.”

GameStop previously became one of the defining meme stocks of 2021. In recent years, the company has shifted its focus from NFTs toward retro gaming businesses, while also closing more than 400 stores across the United States earlier this year. Source

Linux Exposes Another High-Risk Privilege Escalation Vulnerability, Dirty Frag

Researchers have disclosed a Linux kernel local privilege escalation exploit chain named Dirty Frag. By combining CVE-2026-43284 and CVE-2026-43500, attackers with low-level privileges — including those operating within containers or virtual machine environments — can reliably obtain root access. Exploit code reportedly leaked within three days of disclosure, and Microsoft stated that it has already observed signs of real-world attack testing activity.

Both vulnerabilities originate from flaws in Linux kernel page cache handling. CVE-2026-43284 targets the esp4 and esp6 processing paths within IPsec ESP receiving flows, while CVE-2026-43500 targets rxrpc. Researchers stated that the vulnerability belongs to the same family as Dirty Pipe and Copy Fail, but shifts its focus from pipe_buffer structures to the frag member within struct sk_buff. Although exploiting either vulnerability independently offers limited reliability, chaining them together reportedly enables stable privilege escalation across all major Linux distributions, allowing attacks such as SSH compromise, web shell deployment, and container escape scenarios.

Debian, AlmaLinux, and Fedora have already released patches. Google stated that Kubernetes’ default hardening configurations can reduce container escape risks, although virtual machine environments and less restricted systems remain highly vulnerable. Source

Sony Unveils Officially Licensed Scuf Omega Controller

Sony Launches Reon Pocket Pro Plus Wearable Air Conditioner

On May 12, Sony updated its “wearable air conditioner” product lineup with the launch of the new Reon Pocket Pro Plus, priced at €229. In terms of wearable design, the Reon Pocket Pro Plus adopts a pair of redesigned flexible support arms that wrap around both sides of the neck, while the main unit rests on the upper back. Compared with previous models, the new design improves fit and stability, making it less likely to shift while walking or bending over. To address heat dissipation, Sony redesigned the exhaust structure by introducing a retractable and angle-adjustable air outlet. Users can extend the vent and fine-tune its angle according to collar height and clothing style, directing hot air away from the body. Even when wearing high-collar shirts or standing-collar jackets, the design helps prevent heat from accumulating around the neck and back. The new model also upgrades its cooling algorithm, improving overall cooling performance by roughly 20% over the previous generation, while lowering the cooling plate surface temperature by up to an additional 2 degrees Celsius. Sony also recommends pairing the device with the Reon Pocket Tag 2 temperature and humidity sensor for smarter automatic cooling adjustments. Source

Google Security Team Detects First Signs of AI-Assisted Hacking Activity

On May 12, Google’s Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) published a report titled “GTIG AI Threat Tracking: Adversaries Using Artificial Intelligence for Exploitation, Enhanced Operations, and Initial Access.” In the report, GTIG stated that while discovering and blocking a zero-day exploit attack, researchers identified signs of AI-assisted code generation within a Python script used by attackers for the first time.

Although the quality of AI-generated code remains inconsistent at this stage, the report noted that AI has significantly lowered the technical barrier for non-professional attackers to carry out large-scale cyber intrusions, dramatically shortening the weaponization process for zero-day vulnerabilities. The report also warned that attackers are using large language models to generate highly deceptive phishing emails and are crafting specialized prompts to manipulate enterprise AI assistants into leaking sensitive information or performing unauthorized actions.

GTIG recommends that security teams adopt an “AI versus AI” strategy by deploying automated analysis and detection models capable of identifying AI-generated malicious payloads and abnormal traffic in real time. At the same time, enterprises are encouraged to strengthen employee training focused on identifying AI-generated content.Source

Google Expands File Search Capabilities in Gemini API

Google recently announced an expansion of file search capabilities within the Google Gemini API, bringing developers more comprehensive multimodal Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) functionality. The core updates include support for mixed image-and-text retrieval, custom metadata filtering, and page-level citations, improving accessibility and accuracy for enterprise knowledge bases, document Q&A systems, and AI agents.

According to Google’s official blog, the updated file search system is no longer limited to traditional text vector search. Instead, it is built on Gemini Embedding 2’s unified multimodal embedding capabilities, allowing the system to simultaneously understand visual and textual content across images, PDFs, and documents. Developers no longer need to build complex vector databases, embedding pipelines, or document chunking systems themselves, and can instead complete full RAG workflows directly through the Gemini API.

The custom metadata filtering feature allows developers to add metadata such as tags, categories, timestamps, and departments to uploaded files, enabling more accurate and efficient filtering during retrieval. Meanwhile, the new page-level citation functionality allows Gemini to explicitly reference the exact document page where information originates, rather than vaguely citing the entire file. All new features are now officially available.Source
