    Doubao Confirms Launch of Paid Subscription Service

    On June 3, AI assistant Doubao published a statement announcing plans to introduce Doubao Professional, a premium version designed for the productivity needs of professional users. The service will include specialized capabilities for software development, data analysis, professional design, workflow automation, financial analysis, and scientific research.

    For everyday users, Doubao’s existing features—including search-based Q&A, writing assistance, image generation, voice conversations, and video chat—will remain free of charge. The company also stated that some Professional Edition features will be made available to users within certain usage limits at no cost.

    Doubao emphasized that recent rumors regarding a paid version of the service are inaccurate. Doubao Professional is still undergoing testing, and further details will be announced at a later date. Source


    Moonshot AI Launches Kimi Work Beta

    On June 3, Moonshot AI announced that its large language model Kimi will gain a new Work feature, now available in beta testing. Kimi Work is a general-purpose local agent designed for knowledge workers and is being introduced alongside the latest beta versions of the Kimi desktop client for macOS and Windows.

    Kimi Work supports agent clusters and can autonomously create a team of up to 300 sub-agents depending on task complexity, enabling it to handle more sophisticated and time-consuming workloads. Like similar products, Kimi Work also supports importing Skills to perform more specialized or professional tasks. The beta version is currently available on macOS, while the Windows release will arrive at a later date.


    OpenAI Expands Codex Use Cases

    On June 3, OpenAI announced an expansion of Codex’s capabilities, introducing six new professional role plugins covering 62 applications and 110 skills. The new plugins target data analysis, creative production, sales, product design, public equity investing, and investment banking. The data analysis plugin helps teams query business data, explain metric changes, and generate reports or dashboards through integrations with tools such as Snowflake, Databricks Genie, Hex, and Tableau. The creative production plugin is designed for marketing teams, transforming briefs into ad variations, campaign boards, product images, and lifestyle visuals.

    In addition, OpenAI introduced a new Sites feature for Business and Enterprise subscribers, allowing users to create and share interactive hosted websites and applications. Codex can transform ideas, analyses, and plans into dashboards, planners, review workspaces, project boards, portfolios, and lightweight tools. These can be shared via URL with specific team members, providing a collaborative workspace for exploring projects, contributing ideas, tracking progress, and making decisions together. Annotation capabilities have also been extended to documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. Users can select navigation elements, investment thesis statements, or chart labels within slides and instruct Codex to modify only those specific sections. Source


    Amazfit Introduces the Balance 3 Smartwatch

    On June 3, Amazfit launched the Balance 3 smartwatch in overseas markets. The device features a stainless-steel body, measures approximately 14.6mm thick including the sensor module, and has a case diameter of 51.4mm. It is rated for 10ATM water resistance.

    The front is equipped with a 1.5-inch AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits and comes standard with a sapphire crystal cover. In terms of health tracking, the Balance 3 supports 24/7 heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen tracking, skin temperature measurement, and stress monitoring. It can also detect abnormal heart rate conditions, low blood oxygen levels, and elevated stress levels. Additional features include sleep tracking and menstrual cycle monitoring.

    The smartwatch supports more than 180 sports modes and includes a built-in GPS module for standalone activity tracking. Other features include a 658mAh battery, with Amazfit claiming up to 21 days of battery life under typical use and around 7 days with the always-on display (AOD) enabled.     CHERRY Unveils the XTRFY K63W Pro Gaming Keyboard

    On June 3, CHERRY’s gaming hardware brand CHERRY XTRFY introduced the world’s first gaming keyboard to support 8K UWB (Ultra-Wideband) wireless connectivity — the CHERRY XTRFY K63W Pro.

    According to CHERRY, traditional wireless solutions used in peripherals often suffer from crowded and narrow communication channels. UWB technology, by contrast, transmits data using short-duration pulses across a much wider frequency spectrum, enabling more precise timing, reduced interference, and more stable communication.

    The K63W Pro features a compact 70% layout and is equipped with the upgraded CHERRY MX LOW PROFILE 2.0 mechanical low-profile switches. It comes with ABS keycaps featuring laser etching and UV coating. Internally, the keyboard uses a gasket-mounted structure, supports an 8kHz polling rate, and includes a 6,000mAh battery capable of delivering up to 1,100 hours of battery life. The MX LP 2.0 switches have been redesigned with a smoother keystroke, improved stability, more consistent actuation, and a crisp yet fluid linear feel.     Longsys Announces AIDIMM and AILPBGA Memory Solutions

    At COMPUTEX 2026, Longsys unveiled two specialized memory products designed for on-device AI inference: AIDIMM and AILPBGA. Both solutions are based on LPDDR5X memory, feature a 256-bit wide interface, and support transfer speeds of up to 9600MT/s.

    The AIDIMM architecture shares some similarities with server-side SOCAMM2 modules but has been specifically optimized for AI agent host systems. Its four LPDDR DRAM chips are arranged horizontally along the shorter edge of the module. Measuring 80mm in length and 30mm in width, the module supports capacities of up to 128GB and uses a tool-free high-pin-count connector.

    AILPBGA, meanwhile, targets embedded AI inference scenarios where compact size is a key requirement. It offers capacities ranging from 24GB to 64GB and is fully compatible with standard LPDDR interfaces. The solution uses a 22mm × 22mm BGA1764 package, delivering high memory bandwidth while maintaining a compact footprint and a high level of integration. Source

    Google unveils the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP)

    Recently, Google, together with retail giants such as Walmart, Shopify, and Etsy, introduced a new standard for AI shopping agents called UCP (Universal Commerce Protocol), which was officially announced at the NRF (National Retail Federation) conference in the United States. UCP is a new open standard designed to unify digital commerce. Google plans to integrate UCP-related services into its search engine and Gemini in the future, enabling users to find desired products more accurately and quickly when searching or interacting with AI, and to complete purchases directly via Google Pay without leaving the interface. It is also worth noting that at the same conference, Walmart officially announced a partnership with Google that will allow consumers to shop for products at Walmart and Sam’s Club directly through Gemini.     Apple and Google reach a partnership on AI models

    On January 12, Google and Apple released a joint statement announcing that the two companies have entered into a long-term collaboration. The next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be built on Google’s Gemini large language model and cloud technologies. These models will power Apple Intelligence features as well as a more personalized version of Siri scheduled to launch later this year. The statement said that after careful evaluation, Apple believes Google’s AI technology is the best fit for Apple Foundation Models, and that Apple Intelligence will not alter its existing privacy commitments, including on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute. Previous reports claimed that Apple pays Google about USD 1 billion annually to integrate Gemini, and that the new Siri model would have around 1.2 trillion parameters.     Xianyu launches a collectible consignment service “Yuligou”

    Recently, Xianyu has “quietly” rolled out its new trendy-toy consignment service, Yuligou. Under this program, Xianyu officially inspects the seller’s items. Yuligou strictly controls goods shipped directly from official sources to ensure authenticity and traceability. Items are either ordered by sellers through official brand channels (such as official apps, mini programs, or Tmall flagship stores) and shipped to the warehouse by changing the delivery address, or shipped directly into the warehouse by Xianyu-certified brand partners. From receiving and quality inspection, warehousing and listing, to order picking, packing, and shipping, the entire in-warehouse process is recorded on video, with professional procedures providing peace of mind. To avoid players relying on “luck-based blind draws,” all items sold on Yuligou are pre-inspected confirmed units rather than blind boxes. In addition, sellers set their own prices.     Anthropic announces the launch of an AI healthcare service

    On January 11, Anthropic officially announced that its AI product, Claude, will roll out a healthcare service compliant with the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The service will be available to hospitals, medical institutions, and individual users for handling protected health information. Claude has also integrated multiple scientific databases and enhanced its support for biomedical research. For individual users, Anthropic will allow people to export their personal health data from apps such as Apple Health and Function Health, making it more efficient to organize medical records and share them with healthcare providers. Anthropic said that Banner Health, one of the largest nonprofit healthcare systems in the United States, already has more than 22,000 clinicians using Claude, with 85% reporting improvements in work efficiency and accuracy.     OpenAI acquires AI healthcare company Torch

    On January 13, OpenAI announced its acquisition of the AI healthcare company Torch. Founded less than a year ago, Torch has released an iOS app designed to bring together users’ medical and health data — including hospital lab results, medication records, wearable device data, and direct-to-consumer testing services — into a single place, providing a unified “medical memory” for connected AI services.     Google removes AI-generated summaries for searches involving specific medical keywords

    Recently, while testing Google’s AI summary feature, The Guardian found that for some medical-related keywords — such as several specific liver function blood test indicators — the summaries generated by Google omitted conditions that are crucial for interpreting those metrics and instead presented only numerical values. Experts interviewed by The Guardian said that some of these summaries were misleading and could cause users to misjudge their own health conditions. After the report was published, Google quietly removed the AI summary feature for the related keywords. A Google spokesperson said the company would not comment on individual removals, but that when the AI summary feature performs inappropriately, Google will make broader improvements and take action under its policy framework when necessary.     Instagram mistakenly sends millions of password reset emails due to a system bug

    Over the past weekend, millions of users around the world received password reset emails from Instagram. Security organizations and media outlets suggested that Instagram might have suffered an information leak. Meta responded that there was a vulnerability in its system that allowed external third parties to bypass the normal verification process and submit password reset requests in bulk for some Instagram users. Because the requests appeared to be legitimate, the system automatically sent genuine reset emails to the registered email addresses of affected users. Meta emphasized that this was only a flaw that triggered the sending of reset emails and did not mean that its internal systems had been illegally accessed.     China’s first 3D-printed aircraft engine completes its maiden flight

    According to People’s Daily, a turbojet aircraft engine produced using 3D printing technology and developed by the Hunan Power Machinery Research Institute of AECC (Aero Engine Corporation of China) has successfully completed a test flight in Dingbian County, Shaanxi Province. This marks China’s first domestically developed 3D-printed turbojet engine, filling a gap in the engineering application of full-engine 3D printing in the country. In the past, subtractive manufacturing required machining from a solid block of raw material, resulting in significant material waste. By contrast, 3D printing is an additive manufacturing process, with material utilization exceeding 90%. It also enables precision designs that traditional manufacturing processes cannot achieve, such as labyrinth-style cooling channels and integrated load-bearing structures, making designs more open and flexible. In addition, 3D printing technology allows manufacturers to switch between different products without adjusting production lines.     • At CES 2026, Qualcomm officially unveiled its Snapdragon X2 Plus chip. The chip features a third-generation Oryon CPU, an integrated Adreno X2-45 GPU, and the latest Hexagon NPU. This brings notable performance gains over the previous generation, along with a significant reduction in power consumption, and more balanced improvements in AI and ray tracing performance. According to currently leaked CineBench benchmark scores, Apple’s M4 chip still leads in single-core performance with 173 points, compared to 133 points for the X2 Plus. In multi-core performance, however, the X2 Plus narrowly edges out the Apple M4 with 1,011 points versus 993 points. Source
    • According to the latest support documentation released by Microsoft, Microsoft Lens has been discontinued on both Android and iOS as of January 9, 2026. Starting February 9, the app will no longer be supported and will be removed from Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store. Users will still be able to scan documents until March 9, after which new scan requests will no longer be possible, though existing scan records can still be accessed via the last signed-in Microsoft account. Microsoft recommends switching to OneDrive for document scanning. OneDrive includes a built-in scanning feature that can be accessed by tapping the “+” icon at the bottom of the app interface.     Apple Accelerates CEO Succession Planning

    According to the Financial Times, Apple is accelerating its CEO succession plan. Several people familiar with the discussions revealed that Tim Cook may step down as early as next year. John Ternus, the current Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, is widely seen as the most likely successor, though Apple has yet to make a final decision.

    Reports indicate that Apple’s board and senior executives have recently intensified preparations for Cook’s transition. Sources emphasized that this succession planning has been underway for years and is unrelated to Apple’s current performance. Cook, who just turned 65 this month, has led Apple for more than 14 years since taking over from Steve Jobs in 2011. During Cook’s tenure, Apple’s market capitalization has risen from around $350 billion in 2011 to today’s $4 trillion.

    Apple’s executive team has seen several major changes this year, including the departure of Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri earlier in the year and the announced exit of Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams. Cook has previously stated that he prefers an internal candidate to succeed him. Apple declined to comment on its succession plans.

    “Antitrust Compliance Guidelines for Internet Platforms” released for public comment

    On November 15, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) issued the Antitrust Compliance Guidelines for Internet Platforms (Draft for Public Comment) and opened it for public feedback. The deadline for submitting opinions is November 29, 2025.

    SAMR stated that in recent years, the platform economy has developed rapidly, with internet platforms exhibiting strong network effects. Enforcement practice shows that antitrust risks in the platform economy are frequent, and businesses have expressed a need for compliance guidance. In response, SAMR drafted the Guidelines. The document refines the Anti-Monopoly Law but is not legally binding, serving instead as general guidance.

    The Guidelines identify four major categories of antitrust risks. Concerning monopoly agreements, it prohibits horizontal agreements between platform operators (such as price fixing or market division) and vertical agreements with trading partners (such as fixing resale prices). It specifically highlights the risks of using algorithms to facilitate coordinated behavior.

    Regarding abuse of market dominance, the Guidelines outline the factors for determining whether a platform holds a dominant position (such as market share, control capability, user dependence, and entry barriers). They prohibit dominant platforms from engaging in unfair high or low pricing (e.g., charging excessively high commissions), below-cost sales (such as unjustified excessive subsidies), refusal to deal (e.g., delisting products, restricting traffic, blocking accounts), exclusive dealings (“choose one of two”), tying or imposing unreasonable conditions (such as forcing “lowest price on the entire internet” or mandatory collection of unnecessary user data), and discriminatory practices (such as “personalized price discrimination based on big data”).

    The Guidelines also note that concentrations meeting the declaration thresholds must be filed in advance, and platforms should avoid participating in monopoly behaviors encouraged or coordinated by administrative authorities.

    To manage these risks, the Guidelines require platforms to establish a full-chain risk prevention system covering pre-event, ongoing, and post-event compliance management. They emphasize reviewing platform rules and screening algorithms to ensure algorithm transparency and explainability, avoiding “black-box algorithms.” The document also outlines compliance assurance mechanisms, including establishing compliance management bodies and implementing reporting, training, and assessment systems.

    OpenAI fixes ChatGPT’s em-dash overuse issue

    On November 15, OpenAI announced through its official Threads account that it has fixed ChatGPT’s issue of excessively using em dashes. For a long time, overuse of the em dash has been widely regarded as an effective indicator of AI-generated text. CEO Sam Altman confirmed the update in a post on X, calling the fix “a small win, but a nice one.”

    Although em dashes are a perfectly legitimate punctuation mark and have been widely used in serious writing such as literature and academic work, many AI models have struggled to restrain their tendency to overuse them, making the symbol a recent target of widespread criticism. Over the past few months, numerous academic papers, emails, ad copy, and online comments have been criticized for their “ChatGPT-style em dashes.” Even when users explicitly requested “no em dashes” in prompts, ChatGPT would stubbornly use them anyway.

    This update does not mean that ChatGPT will stop using em dashes by default. According to Altman, users need to explicitly request this in their personalized settings under Custom Instructions.

    Europe to begin taxing low-value Chinese e-commerce parcels ahead of schedule

    According to the Financial Times, EU finance ministers reached an agreement on November 13 to accelerate a plan aimed at curbing cheap imports from China. Beginning in early 2026, the EU will impose tariffs on small parcels from e-commerce platforms such as Shein, Temu, and Alibaba, in an effort to protect domestic retailers from unfair competition. This timeline is more than two years earlier than originally planned.

    Under the agreement, the EU will formally abolish the current €150 duty-free threshold for imported goods by mid-2028. Before that, starting in early 2026, a temporary tariff will first be introduced. Two diplomats revealed that this temporary tariff will likely take the form of a fixed fee, as customs systems would otherwise be overwhelmed if required to process the correct tax rate for each individual item.

    The EU’s economics commissioner noted that in 2024, imports of such low-value parcels reached 4.6 billion items, 91% of which came from China. In a letter to national ministers, the EU trade commissioner called this move a crucial step toward ensuring Europe’s competitiveness and providing fair conditions for businesses. The Dutch finance minister similarly stated that the EU needs to regulate the influx of cheap Chinese parcels.

    Back in August of this year, Trump also issued an executive order suspending the U.S. de minimis trade rule entirely. Previously, the U.S. threshold had been raised from $200 to $800 during the Obama administration, making it one of the highest duty-free limits in the world.

    In response to the EU’s actions, China’s ambassador to the EU, Cai Run, warned against the rise of trade politicization and protectionism, calling for dialogue to resolve frictions. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it hopes the EU will provide Chinese companies with a fair, just, and non-discriminatory business environment.

    iOS 26 flaw allows modification of system files to unlock disabled feature

    Recently, researcher Hana Kim disclosed a vulnerability found in iOS 26.2 Beta 1 and earlier versions. By exploiting this flaw, attackers can modify files under the usually protected /private/var/ directory, thereby enabling various Apple-disabled or hidden features.

    According to Hana Kim, the vulnerability is made possible because the iBooks daemon bookassetd possesses elevated write permissions but does not strictly validate target write paths. Meanwhile, the iTunes Store daemon itunesstored can control bookassetd by writing files—yet itunesstored itself can be influenced by files writable by ordinary users.

    To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker can first use standard device management software to write a specially crafted SQLite file instructing itunesstored to pass another specially crafted SQLite file—disguised as an EPUB e-book—to bookassetd. bookassetd then follows the instructions and overwrites other specified system files, effectively achieving sandbox escape.

    Multiple tools such as Misaka and Nugget—used to unlock Apple’s disabled or hidden features—have announced plans to support iOS 26 based on this vulnerability. These tools work by modifying system files through the exploit. Previously, many of their features became unusable after a key exploit, TrollStore, was patched in iOS 18.2. Developer Duy Tran has even demonstrated enabling iPadOS-exclusive multitasking and windowed app features on an iPhone 17 Pro Max using the new vulnerability.

    However, Apple has already patched the flaw in iOS 26.2 Beta 2 and has stopped signing iOS 26.2 Beta 1. Therefore, the vulnerability is available only to existing users who remain on supported versions.

    Huaqiangbei storage product prices surge

    According to Securities Times, Shenzhen’s Huaqiangbei electronics market is experiencing a dramatic surge in storage product prices. Since April this year, prices for memory sticks and SSDs have generally doubled. Some 64GB RAM modules using domestic chips have jumped from just over 1,000 RMB to 4,200 RMB—a more than threefold increase. Vendors report that RAM prices now change several times a day—morning and afternoon prices differ—earning them the nickname “black gold bars.”

    The core driver of this price spike is a global supply-demand imbalance. On the demand side, explosive infrastructure growth in AI data centers has sharply increased the need for high-end memory chips. Industry data shows that a single AI server requires 3 to 8 times more DRAM and NAND than a regular server. On the supply side, to protect profit margins, global memory giants such as SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron are prioritizing production capacity for high-margin AI-focused products like HBM (high-bandwidth memory) and DDR5. They have also announced the discontinuation of DDR4 and other long-standing consumer-focused product lines, prompting an overall supply contraction.

    In Huaqiangbei, although some merchants who stockpiled inventory early have seen their “paper wealth” soar, many others say that despite rising prices, sales are declining. This has created a dilemma of being afraid to buy inventory but also unable to sell it. PC assembly vendors have seen a clear drop in orders, and the cost of assembling a single computer has risen by at least 200 RMB. Smartphones are also affected: recent flagship launches from OPPO and vivo have all seen across-the-board price hikes. Xiaomi executives likewise stated publicly that rising storage costs have far exceeded expectations, significantly widening the price gap between storage tiers—such as the Redmi K90, where the 512GB model is 600 RMB more expensive than the 256GB version.

    Industry analysts widely believe that this “supercycle” in storage is unlikely to reverse in the short term. Some consulting firms predict that the demand and price momentum for DRAM may continue through 2026. Several A-share–listed storage companies have also said that the industry upcycle will positively impact their performance.
