    HIMA unveils the new-generation AITO M9

    On May 27, HIMA officially launched the all-new AITO M9, available in both the Standard Edition and the Ultimate Extended Edition. The new model introduces more than 140 new technologies and 40 industry-first innovations. The standard model measures 5285 × 2026 × 1845 mm with a 3125 mm wheelbase, while the Ultimate version measures 5402 × 2026 × 1845 mm with a 3236 mm wheelbase.

    The lineup includes both extended-range and fully electric variants. The powertrain delivers up to 903 horsepower, achieves 0–100 km/h acceleration in as little as 3.99 seconds, offers up to 750 km of pure electric range, and up to 1405 km of combined range for the extended-range version.

    The new vehicle is equipped with Huawei’s dual-silicon-carbide electric drive system, the Giant Whale battery platform, a six-LiDAR sensor array, and the ADS 5 intelligent driving system. The interior offers multiple seating configurations alongside an in-car cinema system, intelligent interactive cockpit, and various innovative design features.     NIO officially launches the executive flagship ES9

    On May 27, NIO officially unveiled the executive flagship SUV ES9, available in three versions: the Executive Luxury Edition starting at RMB 498,000 (or RMB 390,000 with battery subscription), the Executive Signature Edition starting at RMB 558,000 (RMB 450,000 with battery subscription), and the Horizon Special Edition starting at RMB 628,000 (RMB 520,000 with battery subscription). Customers who place orders before July 31, 2026 can enjoy limited-time benefits including a “0 down payment, 5-year financing with 2 years waived” package and five years of complimentary NOP+ access.

    The ES9 measures 5365 mm in length with a 3250 mm wheelbase, adopts a full-domain 900V high-voltage architecture, and features a dual-motor setup combining induction asynchronous and permanent magnet synchronous motors. The system delivers 520 kW peak output and 700 N·m of peak torque, while also offering steer-by-wire, rear-wheel steering, and intelligent terrain modes.

    On the intelligent driving side, the ES9 is built on the Cedar platform and powered by NIO’s self-developed 5nm automotive-grade flagship intelligent driving chip with 546GB/s memory bandwidth. The Cedar AQUILA perception system includes NIO’s in-house “Yangjian” primary control chip, a forward-facing LiDAR capable of detecting objects up to 500 meters away, seven 8MP cameras, and four high-sensitivity surround-view cameras. The vehicle runs the Sky OS TianShu operating system alongside the NWM NIO World Model, supporting point-to-point navigation assistance and intelligent parking.

    The cabin features “Aviation Executive Seats,” LC intelligent privacy dimming windows with over 99.8% light-blocking capability, an 8.8L smart refrigerator, 20-point mechanical foot massage, and an onboard video conferencing system. Two six-seat layouts are offered: center-island and aisle configurations. The front trunk provides 216L of storage space. Audio is handled by the “Jiuxiao Tianqin” 9.2.4.8 immersive sound system with 47 speakers, certified for Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Dynamic Video Enhancement.

    RayNeo releases new smart glasses

    On May 27, RayNeo officially unveiled three new smart glasses products at once: the entertainment-focused AR glasses RayNeo GT and GT MAX, as well as the AI photography glasses RayNeo V4. All three products are now available for pre-order, with the first deliveries beginning on May 30.

    RayNeo GT and GT MAX focus on delivering a “next-generation cinema” experience. They feature an ultra-wide 59° field of view and can project up to a 267-inch virtual display (201 inches for the GT). Both models are equipped with the Vision 4000 image-quality chip and the Zone 360 3DoF computing chip, while using dual-layer Micro-OLED displays covering 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. They also support 3840Hz high-frequency eye-protection dimming and feature four Bang & Olufsen-tuned speakers. The GT MAX additionally carries Dolby Vision certification and requires pairing with the “Magic Box 2 Dolby Vision Edition.” The GT is priced at RMB 1899 (RMB 1614.15 after national subsidies), while the GT MAX costs RMB 2599 (RMB 2209.15 after subsidies).

    RayNeo V4 is positioned as an AI-powered photography glasses product under the slogan “Phones Out, Glasses In.” It features a large 1:1 square-format sensor and the “Falcon Imaging 2.0” system, supporting AI response times as fast as 0.2 seconds. The glasses use an upgraded dual-chip architecture featuring the first-generation Snapdragon AR1 chip alongside a Blue Whale semi-solid-state battery.     NVIDIA announces the retirement of the GeForce Control Panel

    On May 26, NVIDIA released the latest GeForce Game Ready 610.47 WHQL driver update, optimized for games such as 007 First Light and World of Tanks: HEAT, while also officially retiring the NVIDIA Control Panel.

    NVIDIA stated that after updates to the NVIDIA App, all functions from the NVIDIA Control Panel have been modernized and preserved, leaving the old application with no further reason to exist. At the same time, NVIDIA clarified in its announcement that already-installed versions of the NVIDIA Control Panel will remain on users’ systems unless they perform a clean installation. Users who still require the NVIDIA Control Panel can continue downloading it from the Microsoft Store, though NVIDIA will no longer add features, fixes, or make any additional changes. Source


    OM System launches the OM-3 ASTRO astrophotography-focused camera

    The OM System OM-3 ASTRO astrophotography-focused camera officially went on sale on May 27, with the Chinese mainland body-only retail price set at RMB 14,999. At the same time, the body-mount light pollution reduction filter (BMF-LPC01) is priced at RMB 199, while the body-mount soft-focus filter (BMF-SE01) costs RMB 1499.

    Compared to the standard version, this camera has been specially optimized for astrophotography. The infrared-cut filter on the CMOS sensor has been specifically enhanced for H-alpha transmission, achieving up to 100% transmittance. It supports in-camera stacked high-resolution shooting modes, features starry-sky autofocus and live composite modes, and also includes dedicated astronomy and astrophotography custom modes. In terms of specifications, the camera uses a 20MP stacked backside-illuminated Live MOS Micro Four Thirds sensor, paired with a 3-inch 1.62-million-dot articulating touchscreen LCD, a 2.36-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF), five-axis in-body image stabilization, and IP53-rated dust and splash resistance.     The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to receive a brand-new DLC

    On May 27, CDPR announced through social media that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will receive a brand-new DLC expansion titled Song of the Past. The protagonist will once again be Geralt of Rivia. The DLC is being co-developed by CDPR and Fool’s Theory, and is scheduled to launch in 2027 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 platforms. Source

    Toy Story 5 releases its final trailer

    Recently, Pixar officially announced that the animated film Toy Story 5 has been scheduled for simultaneous release in mainland China and North America on June 19. The film will be available in IMAX, Dolby Cinema, RealD 3D, 4DX, ScreenX, D-Box, Fandango, AMC, and Cinemark formats.

    On May 27, Pixar also released the movie’s final trailer. The trailer showcases the intense conflict between traditional toys and digital technology. Bonnie’s obsession with a new tech device known as the “Lily Tablet” causes Woody and the other toys to be nearly forgotten, facing the threat of replacement. In order to defend their mission of “making children happy,” the toys must stand up and confront the frog-shaped intelligent tablet voiced by Greta Lee, along with its army of fifty malfunctioning Buzz Lightyears. The story centers around Jessie the cowgirl doll, while legacy characters including Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Tim Allen) all return. Source

    Ferrari Unveils Its First Fully Electric Supercar Luce

    On May 25 local time, Ferrari officially unveiled its first fully electric supercar, the Luce, in Rome. The Luce has a curb weight of 2,260kg and is equipped with four axial-flux permanent magnet synchronous motors derived from the Ferrari F80, featuring independent drive for each wheel. The front motors can reach a maximum speed of 30,000rpm, while the rear motors peak at 25,500rpm. The system delivers a combined maximum output of 772kW and 990Nm of motor torque (11,500Nm wheel torque). Combined with a new VCU control unit, Side Slip Control X system, and eTrac electronic traction control, the Luce accelerates from 0–100km/h in 2.5 seconds and reaches a top speed exceeding 310km/h.

    The Luce uses an 800V structural integrated lithium battery pack co-developed with SK On, containing 15 modules and 210 battery cells. The battery offers an energy density of 305Wh/kg and a total capacity of 122kWh, supporting up to 350kW DC fast charging, with an estimated WLTP driving range exceeding 530km. The exterior was designed by LoveFrom, the creative team led by former Apple Chief Design Officer Jony Ive and Marc Newson. It features a pillarless panoramic glass roof and floating aerodynamic wing elements at the front and rear, paired with progressive large wheels measuring 23 inches in the front and 24 inches in the rear. Inside, the interaction system consists of four OLED displays custom-made by Samsung, while retaining precision-machined aluminum mechanical knobs and toggle switches.

    The Luce includes Ferrari’s official seven-year complimentary maintenance program, along with an eight-year extended warranty covering core EV components. Pricing starts at approximately $650,000. Source


    Sennheiser Launches Momentum 5 Headphones

    On May 25, Sennheiser unveiled the Momentum 5 Wireless over-ear headphones. The new model retains the exterior design of its predecessor while featuring 42mm transducers derived from the HD 600 series. The number of microphones in each earcup has increased to four per side (eight total), with Sennheiser claiming voice noise cancellation performance up to three times better than the previous generation. The headphones are Hi-Res Audio certified and support Snapdragon Sound with aptX Lossless Bluetooth audio codecs. They feature a Bluetooth 5.4 chip with firmware support planned for future Bluetooth 6.0 compatibility. The initial firmware update will also introduce Dolby Atmos spatial audio with head tracking support. The Momentum 5 Wireless includes a user-replaceable 700mAh battery, delivering up to 57 hours of playback with active noise cancellation enabled, alongside fast charging capable of providing three hours of usage from just five minutes of charging.

    Spotify Begins Testing Audio Magazine Articles

    On May 26, Spotify announced testing for a new audio magazine article feature for English-language users in regions where audiobooks are currently available. The feature offers newly produced narrative-style audio articles created by Spotify’s internal team. The initial rollout includes more than 650 long-form articles from publishers such as Rolling Stone, The Atlantic, Vogue, Variety, Billboard, Vibe, GQ, WIRED, Vanity Fair, and Pitchfork. Each audio article is under two hours long. Premium subscribers can listen within their monthly audiobook allowance, while free-tier users must purchase articles individually for $1.99 each. Source


    Motorola Global ROM Found Redirect Hijacking Behavior

    Several overseas versions of Motorola smartphones have reportedly exhibited app hijacking behavior after recent software updates. When users open the Amazon app from the app drawer, the system briefly launches a browser, flashes momentarily, and redirects to a specific URL before injecting Amazon affiliate referral codes.

    Through ADB logs and network traffic analysis, users confirmed that the behavior originates from the preinstalled Smart Feed app version v2.03.0070. Affected devices reportedly include Razr Fold foldable phones and the Razr (2026) lineup. Network logs also show requests being sent to the advertising service domain “devicenative,” with the hijacking process ultimately redirecting users to a site under the domain kira-abboud.com and injecting a dedicated affiliate referral code different from those publicly used by fashion influencers. At present, users can stop the redirect behavior by disabling the Smart Feed app in system settings. Motorola has not yet issued an official response regarding the incident. Source


    Samsung Gallery Will No Longer Support Direct OneDrive Sync

    On May 14, Microsoft updated its support documentation confirming that Samsung Gallery will no longer support direct synchronization with OneDrive starting September 30, 2026. Photos, files, and other previously synced content will still remain accessible through the OneDrive website or mobile app. Microsoft stated that users who wish to continue using photo backup features will need to switch to the OneDrive app and manually enable the “Camera Upload” setting to avoid backup interruptions.     Xiaomi Holds New Product Launch

    On May 21, Xiaomi held its “All-in-One Ecosystem for People, Cars, and Home” product launch, unveiling the large-screen flagship smartphone Xiaomi 17 Max and the high-performance SUV Xiaomi YU7 GT, among other new products. The Xiaomi 17 Max, priced from ¥4,299 after national subsidies, is now available for pre-order and will officially go on sale at 10:00 AM on May 25; the YU7 GT starts at ¥389,900, with full reservations opening at 9:00 PM the same day, refundable if not locked in within three days.

    The Xiaomi 17 Max focuses on battery life and imaging, featuring a 6.9-inch LTPO flat display with a peak brightness of 3,500 nits. The device houses an 8,000mAh Jinsha River battery with 16% silicon content and 894Wh/L energy density, supporting 100W wired and 50W wireless fast charging. It debuts Leica’s 200-megapixel main camera with a 1/1.4-inch large sensor, a periscope telephoto lens supporting 3x optical zoom, and is powered by the fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Ultra chip.     The Xiaomi YU7 GT is equipped with the new-generation V8s EVO super motor, reaching a top speed of 28,000 rpm, maximum horsepower of 1,003 hp, peak power of 738 kW, 0–100 km/h acceleration in 2.92 seconds, and a top speed of 300 km/h. It features a 101.7kWh ternary lithium battery and a 897V silicon carbide high-voltage platform, with a CLTC range of 705 km and a 15-minute maximum recharge adding up to 570 km. Xiaomi founder Lei Jun announced on-site that the YU7 GT set a new Nürburgring SUV lap record of 7 minutes 22.755 seconds, 14 seconds faster than the previous record, becoming the fastest SUV in Nürburgring history.

    The YU7 GT sports the Jiaolong chassis Master Edition with dual-valve CDC dampers, closed dual-chamber air springs, and an eLSD electronic limited-slip differential; the braking system uses carbon-ceramic discs with Akebono high-performance calipers, arranged six-piston front and four-piston rear, achieving a 100–0 km/h braking distance of 32.9 meters.     Photoshop Remove Tool Supports On-Device AI Models

    On May 20, Adobe released Photoshop 27.7, adding on-device AI model support for the Remove Tool. This reduces network dependence and alleviates privacy concerns from uploading image data. Users can choose between cloud-based models or on-device AI mode. According to Adobe’s official configuration requirements, running on-device AI mode on Mac requires at least 24 GB of memory and macOS Tahoe (version 26.4) or later. Devices that do not meet these hardware specifications will have the Device mode grayed out, forcing users to continue using the cloud version of the Remove Tool. Other improvements include integration of Photoshop desktop with the Firefly Inspiration Board, a unified account menu in the editing workspace, and expanded access to advanced generative AI features for more Creative Cloud subscribers.     UGREEN Launches New NAS DXP4800 GT

    On May 21, UGREEN launched the previously teased NAS model DXP4800 GT. This model is based on the AMD Ryzen Embedded R2514 processor, featuring four 3.5″ drive bays (all SATA, two supporting U.2) and two M.2 2280 M-Key NVMe slots, priced from ¥2,681.1. The DXP4800 GT comes with 8GB or 6GB DDR4 memory (ECC supported), integrated 64GB flash, two 10GbE RJ45 ports, one USB-C 10Gbps, one USB-A 10Gbps, one USB-A 5Gbps, two USB-A 480Mbps, one HDMI 2.0 TMDS, and an SD 3.0 (UHS-I) card reader.

    AMD Releases Multiple New Products

    On May 21, AMD launched the Ryzen AI Max+ 400 PRO series APUs, with the flagship Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 set to debut on the next-generation Ryzen AI Halo platform, positioned as the core engine for local AI and high-performance computing. This processor features a 16-core, 32-thread design, a base frequency of 3.1GHz, a maximum boost up to 5GHz, and 80MB of high-speed cache, operating within a configurable TDP range of 45W to 120W to balance performance and power efficiency.

    As is typical for the Max series APUs, the new 400 series dedicates significant chip area for the integrated GPU. The Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 houses a 40-CU GPU based on RDNA 3.5 architecture and an NPU based on XDNA 2, delivering 55 TOPS of AI performance for local large language model inference and various generative AI workloads. In addition to the flagship, AMD also released the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 490 and Max+ PRO 485, with differentiated CPU cores and GPU units. Software support relies on AMD’s ROCm open compute platform, providing high-performance optimizations and compatibility with mainstream state-of-the-art models.     Hubsan Blackhawk 4 Drone Released

    On May 21, Hubsan announced the new Blackhawk 4 drone passed civil aviation UOM RID compliance certification and revealed its specifications. The Blackhawk 4 is an aerial photography drone supporting 16km digital transmission, equipped with a fourth-generation three-axis brushless stabilized gimbal, offering Sport, Standard, and Cinematic flight modes, with a maximum takeoff altitude of 5,000 meters. It features a 48MP 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor, supports 4K video capture, and has a rated flight time of 28 minutes.

    Hubsan has not yet disclosed pricing; the previous Blackhawk 3 drone package (including two 5,000mAh batteries) was priced at ¥3,699. Source

    On May 21, Creative launched its new PCIe “Sound Blaster” card, the Sound Blaster AE-X, priced at ¥1,269.

    This internal sound card features the ESS ES9039Q2M dual-channel DAC chip, offering 32-bit / 384kHz resolution, 130dB SNR, and support for 600Ω headphones, with S/PDIF optical input and output.     • Recently, reports indicated that Beijing Lagou Network Technology Co., Ltd., the company behind the vertical Internet recruitment platform Lagou, entered bankruptcy review on April 29, 2026, and on May 15 was formally approved for bankruptcy reorganization, having voluntarily applied for its own bankruptcy. Lagou is now listed as a debtor with an enforcement target of over ¥240,000, and is also involved in a pending dispute regarding a UCloud technical service contract. Lagou’s official recruitment Weibo and WeChat accounts have been inactive for over a year, with the last post in March 2025. Lagou was founded in 2013 by Xu Dandan, reaching a peak with over 20,000 Internet companies onboard, and in 2017 received a $120 million investment from 51Job, which acquired a 60% controlling stake.     On April 22, modular computer maker Framework unveiled several new hardware products.

    DJI sues Insta360 over six patent ownership disputes

    On March 23, according to Jiemian News, DJI filed a lawsuit against Insta360 in the Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court of Guangdong Province, involving six patent ownership disputes, mainly related to drone flight control, structural design, and imaging processing. In its complaint, DJI stated that the patents in question were inventions created by a former employee within one year after leaving the company, and were closely related to the employee’s job responsibilities while at DJI.     ASUS launches ExpertCenter PN55 mini PC

    On March 18, ASUS officially introduced the ExpertCenter PN55 mini PC. The device is powered by AMD’s Gorgon Point processors, offering multiple configurations ranging from consumer-grade Ryzen AI 5 430 to Ryzen AI 9 HX 470, as well as business-oriented Ryzen AI 7 PRO 450 and Ryzen AI 5 PRO 440 options.

    The PN55 measures 130 × 130 × 34 mm and weighs just 530 grams. Internally, it provides two DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM memory slots, two M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 ×4 NVMe SSD slots, and includes a wireless network card.

    In terms of external I/O, the front panel includes two USB-A ports, one USB-C port (all supporting 10 Gbps), and a 3.5 mm combo audio jack.     LG introduces two ultrawide monitors

    On March 18, LG introduced two new monitors: the 34U640B-B and 34U620B-B. Both models feature 34-inch 1800R curved VA panels with a UWQHD resolution of 3440 × 1440 and a 144 Hz refresh rate.

    Both displays offer a 5 ms response time, 300 nits brightness, a 4000:1 contrast ratio, and cover 99% of the sRGB color gamut. They also support HDR10, variable refresh rate (VRR), and adaptive sync technology. Additionally, both monitors include low blue light and flicker-free eye-care features, with stands that support height adjustment and tilt.

    The main difference lies in connectivity. In addition to the two HDMI ports and one DisplayPort found on the 34U620B-B, the 34U640B-B also includes a full-function USB-C port with 65W Power Delivery and two USB-A 5 Gbps ports. Source

    Tencent launches QClaw

    On March 18, Tencent announced the public beta launch of QClaw, alongside a new version update that upgrades the WeChat entry into a mini program, enabling users to upload or receive files from their computers. A new “Inspiration Square” has also been introduced, featuring preset common tasks and skills, allowing users to execute actions with one click without writing commands.

    QClaw is a local AI agent one-click launch package developed by Tencent PC Manager team, based on the OpenClaw framework. Its core highlight is the integration of both WeChat and QQ entry points, allowing users to remotely control their local computers by simply sending natural language commands within chat windows—without needing to open a dedicated client. It supports tasks such as file processing, data analysis, and browser automation.

    XPeng P7 introduces Max version and three new color options

    On March 18, XPeng Motors held a product launch event, announcing three new exterior color options for the P7 series—Stellar Red, Midnight Black, and Nebula White—bringing the total number of available colors to ten. At the same time, the P7 Max version was introduced, offering three configurations: 702 Max, 820 Max, and 750 AWD Max, with prices ranging from RMB 203,800 to RMB 243,800.

    Xiaomi releases MiMo-V2-Pro model

    On March 19, Xiaomi unveiled its flagship foundation model for agent scenarios, Xiaomi MiMo-V2-Pro. According to the company, the model has over 1 trillion total parameters, with 42 billion activated parameters, and adopts a hybrid attention architecture. It supports up to 1 million tokens of context and is designed for high-intensity agent workflows, long-horizon planning, and complex tool usage in real-world scenarios.

    Xiaomi stated that MiMo-V2-Pro ranks eighth globally and second in China on the Artificial Analysis leaderboard. It has demonstrated end-to-end task execution capabilities in agent frameworks such as OpenClaw and Claude Code, capable of completing complex workflows and precise tool calls without human intervention. The company claims its overall performance surpasses Claude Sonnet 4.6 and approaches Opus 4.6, while its API pricing is only about one-fifth of the latter.

    In terms of capabilities, MiMo-V2-Pro continues the Hybrid Attention mechanism of its predecessor, increasing the ratio from 5:1 to 7:1, scaling up parameters while maintaining inference efficiency. Through expanded compute during post-training across broader agent tasks, the model extends beyond dialogue and code generation into full task execution. Xiaomi also revealed that the anonymous model previously released on OpenRouter under the name Hunter Alpha was an early internal test version of MiMo-V2-Pro.

    MiMo-V2-Pro is now available via API, priced at $1 per million input tokens and $3 per million output tokens for contexts up to 256K, and $2 input / $6 output for contexts up to 1M tokens. The model has also been integrated into MiMo Studio, WPS Lingxi, Xiaomi Browser, and the mobile agent product miclaw. Source


    Midjourney unveils V8 model

    On March 18, the Midjourney team opened early access to the V8 model in its user community, inviting users to test the model and provide feedback. According to Midjourney, V8 shows significant improvements in understanding complex prompts, delivers better image detail and overall consistency, and further enhances text rendering capabilities. Generation speed has also increased by approximately five times compared to previous versions.

    Alongside the V8 release, Midjourney has upgraded its web interface, introducing a more natural conversational creation workflow, a new Grid Mode for easier viewing of image sets, and a redesigned sidebar for parameter controls to reduce visual clutter. In terms of features, V8 supports multiple aspect ratios at launch, as well as parameters such as –chaos, –weird, –exp, and –raw, while remaining compatible with V7 personalization settings, mood boards, and style references.

    The new version also introduces a native 2K output mode (–hd) and a –q 4 mode to improve visual consistency. Midjourney noted that Relax mode is not yet supported and is currently awaiting new server clusters. At present, tasks using –hd, –q 4, style references, and mood boards render at approximately one-quarter the speed of standard tasks and are billed at four times the cost.

    Midjourney emphasized that V8 is a brand-new model with its own strengths and limitations, and may require different prompting techniques. Users are encouraged to use longer and more specific prompts, combined with personalization, style references, and mood boards to fully leverage V8’s capabilities, while also using the web-based rating system to help improve the model.     Firefox to introduce mascot “Kit”

    On March 17, Mozilla announced that Firefox will retire its iconic “fox wrapped around the globe” logo, which has been associated with the browser for over 20 years, and introduce a new mascot named Kit.

    In its blog post, Mozilla stated that the internet has entered a new era, and users need a new guide that conveys warmth and familiarity. Kit is designed to fill this role as a unified global identity. Conceptually, Kit is defined as a pure representation of Firefox—it is neither the traditional fox nor a Himalayan red panda. The character was created through a collaboration between Mozilla, creative agency JKR, and illustrator Marco Palmieri.

    Kit will appear in Firefox’s onboarding experience, feature announcement pop-ups, and settings confirmation screens, and will also be used across Firefox’s website, blog, and social media platforms.

    Mozilla also clarified that Kit was entirely handcrafted by human designers through hundreds of detailed refinements—such as tail movement, textures, and gradients—and is not generated by AI. Users are advised not to mistake it for a chatbot or AI assistant. Source


    FIFA partners with YouTube for World Cup content

    On March 18, YouTube announced a partnership with the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), under which YouTube will serve as an official content partner platform for the 2026 World Cup. During the tournament, YouTube will provide match highlights, archival footage, and a dedicated creator program for global content creators.

    According to current arrangements, rights-holding broadcasters will be allowed to livestream the first 10 minutes of each match on their YouTube channels, and may also publish selected full matches, extended highlights, behind-the-scenes footage, short-form videos, and on-demand content. FIFA will also open access to portions of its historical World Cup archives, including classic matches and iconic moments.

    The collaboration will also include a global YouTube creator program, granting selected creators access to exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes content during the tournament. The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, featuring an expanded format of 48 teams and a total of 104 matches. Source


    Horizon Worlds to discontinue VR version

    On March 18, Meta confirmed that its metaverse platform Horizon Worlds will gradually phase out support for VR devices, with the VR version set to be discontinued and removed from the Quest Store on June 15.

    According to Meta’s current timeline, starting March 31, the Quest Store will no longer display user-created Horizon Worlds environments and events, and users will be unable to access multiple in-world locations—including Horizon Central, Events Arena, Kaiju, and Bobber Bay—via VR headsets. By June 15, the Horizon Worlds app will be completely removed from Quest devices, after which users will only be able to access the platform in 2D mode via the Meta Horizon app on iOS or Android.

    At the same time, the recently introduced Hyperscape Capture testing feature will also be discontinued.     Pentagon Issues Ultimatum to Anthropic

    According to Axios, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth held a closed-door meeting with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and formally issued a Friday evening (February 27) deadline, demanding that Anthropic abandon its AI Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) restrictions on “mass domestic surveillance” and “fully autonomous lethal weapons.” Failure to comply would result in Anthropic being designated a “supply chain risk” company, after which the U.S. government could invoke the Defense Production Act (DPA) to forcibly assume control of its technology. Under the DPA, the government would have the authority to compel Anthropic to prioritize defense-related customization of model versions without safety guardrails—an approach previously used to increase production of critical materials during wartime or pandemics.

    Earlier at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei criticized the U.S. government’s decision to allow NVIDIA to export H200 processors to China, emphasizing that maintaining a computational advantage over China is crucial to preventing authoritarian regimes from leveraging AI technologies. On February 23 (local time), Anthropic also accused three Chinese firms—DeepSeek, Moonshot AI, and MiniMax—of conducting industrial-scale distillation attacks on its models via an official blog post. Claude currently remains the only advanced AI system granted IL6-level classified access by the Pentagon, yet Anthropic has refused to compromise on its usage restrictions. Military officials have emphasized that defense tools must support “all lawful uses” and should not be constrained by private companies’ “woke” policies. The Pentagon is reportedly accelerating alternative solutions and confirmed earlier this week that it has signed an agreement with Elon Musk’s xAI to allow its Grok model into classified systems for weapons development and battlefield operations, while also nearing a classified access agreement with Google’s Gemini.     Panasonic Outsources TV Business

    Panasonic has announced a strategic partnership with Skyworth, transferring its television manufacturing, sales, and marketing operations. Under the agreement, Skyworth will lead sales, marketing, and logistics in North America and Europe, while Panasonic will provide technical expertise and quality assurance and jointly develop high-end OLED models with Skyworth. Panasonic has also committed to providing after-sales support for televisions sold before March 2026, as well as for new models launching from April onward.

    Ubiquiti Releases Cloud Gateway Industrial 10GbE Gateway

    On February 19, Ubiquiti announced the launch of its UniFi Industrial product line, featuring fanless passive cooling designed for extreme environments. The first product in the lineup is the multifunctional 10GbE gateway, Cloud Gateway Industrial, also known as the UCG-Industrial (270W).

    The UCG-Industrial is powered by a quad-core Arm Cortex-A73 processor clocked at 2.2GHz and comes with 3GB of memory. It can manage over 50 UniFi devices and support connections for more than 500 users, with deployment options that include rack-mounted setups. In terms of connectivity, it offers one 10Gb SFP+ port, one 10GbE PoE+++ RJ45 port, four 2.5GbE RJ45 ports (two supporting PoE+++ and two supporting PoE++), and integrated BE5000 dual-band Wi-Fi 7. It also comes pre-installed with a 128GB microSD card for NVR storage and includes a SIM card slot compatible with the UniFi 5G Max Outdoor modem. The device is priced at $579. Source


    Sigma Announces Full-Frame 35mm F1.4 DG II and APS-C 15mm F1.4 DC Lenses

    On February 24, Sigma officially announced two new lenses: the 35mm F1.4 DG II and the 15mm F1.4 DC. The 35mm F1.4 DG II features a newly designed optical structure with 15 elements in 12 groups, including four high-precision aspherical elements and two SLD (Special Low Dispersion) elements. It comes with an 11-blade rounded diaphragm. The lens weighs 530g and measures 94mm in length (L-mount), and is equipped with a dual HLA floating focus system. Compared to its predecessor, it is approximately 14% shorter and 20% lighter. The lens includes AFL buttons at two positions, which can be assigned various functions via compatible camera menus. In addition to the aperture ring, it also features an aperture ring lock switch and a de-click switch. The lens is priced at $1,059.

    The 15mm F1.4 DC lens is designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras and serves as an upgrade to the previous 16mm F1.4 model. It measures 64.8mm in length and weighs 220g, offering a full-frame equivalent focal length of 22.5mm (24mm for the Canon RF mount). Compared to the previous generation, it is about 30% shorter and 50% lighter, and features a 9-blade diaphragm. It uses a stepping motor to drive a lightweight focusing group and includes an aperture ring for intuitive control. The Canon RF mount version also incorporates a customizable control ring.     Meta Reaches Chip Procurement Agreement with AMD

    On February 24, Meta announced plans to procure up to $100 billion worth of chips from AMD, including MI540-series GPUs and next-generation CPUs, which are expected to power approximately 6GW of data center energy demand. As part of the multi-year agreement, AMD has granted Meta performance-based stock warrants equivalent to roughly 10% of the company’s shares, with an exercise price of $0.01 per share.     1Password to Increase Subscription Prices

    On February 24, password management service provider 1Password announced that it will raise subscription fees for its Individual and Family plans starting March 27, 2026. According to an official email, the annual fee for the Individual plan will increase from $35.88 to $47.88—a 33% rise—while the Family plan will go from $59.88 to $71.88 annually. The new rates will take effect at the next billing cycle after March 27. Users who renew before that date can still enjoy the current pricing for one additional year.

    Lamborghini Cancels Lanzador EV Project

    In a recent interview, Lamborghini announced the cancellation of its Lanzador all-electric SUV project.     Blizzard Announces Overwatch Mobile Spin-Off

    Blizzard Entertainment has officially revealed Overwatch Rush, a mobile spin-off based on the Overwatch IP. Rather than being a port of the mainline series, the game is a top-down shooter designed specifically for mobile devices. It is being developed by an internal mobile team separate from Team 4 and features a 4v4 competitive mode with a more cartoonish art style. The initial roster includes heroes from the main series such as Tracer, Reinhardt, and Mercy—whose abilities have been reworked into a more combat-focused medic role. The game supports dual virtual joystick controls and customizable abilities.

    The title will launch as a free-to-play (F2P) game on Android and iOS platforms. It is currently in the early stages of development, with the first round of Beta testing planned to begin soon in select regions such as the Philippines.     Driving an EV in Japan: A One-Day Tesla Road Trip

    As everyone knows, the pace of iteration for electric vehicles in China over the past few years has been astonishing. New models seem to arrive almost monthly, wave after wave. Japan, by contrast, remains very much a gasoline-car country. Gas-powered vehicles still dominate the streets, hybrids are seen as a more practical compromise, and fully electric cars are relatively rare in everyday life.

    As one of the most representative EV brands, Tesla entered the Japanese market as early as 2010. By 2026, the brand has been operating in Japan for a full 16 years. From nothing to something, Teslas can now occasionally be spotted driving on the streets of Tokyo.

    Having lived in Japan for many years, I had never actually experienced driving an EV here. Naturally, I was curious: in Japan—especially in a city like Tokyo, which is relatively EV-friendly and has a higher density of charging stations—what is it really like to drive a Tesla? To satisfy my curiosity and to keep up with the times by finally driving a Tesla myself, I decided to rent one through a Japanese car rental platform and give it a try.

    Car Rental Platform

    That’s where the trouble began.

    Although I’ve used almost all of Japan’s major car rental companies, after some searching I realized that none of them offered Tesla—or EV—rentals at all. Left with no choice, I had to take a step back and look elsewhere. Through a search engine, I found a company I had never heard of before, one that specializes exclusively in Tesla rentals: BOXIV SHARE.

    The company isn’t well known, but its website presentation looked quite appealing: a dedicated rental app, fully contactless rentals, complimentary access to Tesla Superchargers, a decent selection of models, and the ability to connect with Tesla’s official app.

    After reading through all of this, I decided to stop overthinking it and place an order directly. I rented a Model Y Performance. The cost was 20,000 yen for one day, plus an additional 4,400 yen for insurance. For comparison, renting a GR86 for a day costs only around 16,000 yen—making it clear that renting a Tesla is significantly more expensive than renting a traditional gasoline car.

    “Picking Up the Car”

    This Model Y Performance was parked in a lot in Shinagawa. BOXIV leases several parking spaces long-term to store Teslas specifically for rental. In addition to the Model Y shown in the photos, I also spotted several Model 3s and refreshed Model Y units.

    Because it’s a fully contactless rental, all procedures are handled through the BOXIV app. First, you complete a pre-departure check in the app: walk around the car to inspect the body for scratches. If there are any scratches not already recorded in the system, you need to take photos and upload them for documentation. Once the check is complete, you can unlock the vehicle directly via the app.

    After getting into the car, there’s a key card placed in the center armrest, along with a printed instruction sheet for users to review. The armrest also contains a power adapter for voltage conversion when using public charging stations.

    Since Tesla’s infotainment system supports multiple languages (whereas most Japanese in-car systems only offer Japanese and English), I immediately switched the interface to Simplified Chinese. From the screen, I could see that this Model Y had already driven over 100,000 kilometers, and even with 85% battery remaining, the estimated range was only 354 km.

    This tea wasn’t put there by us—and the bottle was still there when we returned the car 🤣

    The parking lot where the car was located is equipped with Panasonic chargers rather than Tesla Superchargers, so charging power is relatively limited. To avoid leaving the next renter with insufficient battery, BOXIV offers a charging discount policy: if you charge at a Tesla Supercharger and meet certain criteria, you can receive a few hundred yen off the rental fee.

    Setting Off for Shōsenkyō!

    The destination for our one-day trip was Shōsenkyō, a scenic spot located in Yamanashi Prefecture, just outside Tokyo. From Tokyo, it’s about a two-hour drive, covering roughly 138 kilometers. However, given this car’s limited range and our desire for a more relaxed itinerary, we decided to head to a Tesla Supercharger first, planning to enjoy lunch while charging.

    As of 2016, Tesla had installed more than 700 charging stations in Japan. While Japan’s land area is much smaller than China’s, 700 stations is still a very limited number for the country. From the Supercharger map on Tesla’s official website, it’s clear that Superchargers are relatively dense within Tokyo, but once you leave the city, they become few and far between.

    Take Yamanashi Prefecture, our destination, as an example: there is only a single Supercharger nearby. The map also shows two other charging stations—one in front of a restaurant and another in front of a hotel—but both offer power outputs of only around 10 kW, which can essentially be ignored.

    Yamanashi’s only Supercharger is located in front of an electronics store and consists of six charging stalls, supporting up to 130 kW charging. Before setting off, the estimated remaining battery upon arrival was 30%; in reality, we arrived with 35% remaining.

    After plugging in the charger, we headed to a nearby sushi restaurant for a meal, then stopped by a popular dessert shop in the area, where we ordered coffee and pudding and chatted while eating. BOXIV’s app allows you to check the battery level in real time, and by the time the battery was fully charged, it was just about time for us to head back.

    Shōsenkyō

    Shōsenkyō is located in the northern part of Kōfu City and is one of Yamanashi Prefecture’s most representative gorge landscapes. It is designated a national “Special Place of Scenic Beauty” and is often referred to as “Japan’s most beautiful gorge.” What makes the gorge so striking are the sheer cliffs formed by granite that has been carved by flowing water over long periods of time. Jagged rock formations stand side by side with clear streams, and the walking paths along the creek allow visitors to observe these geological changes up close.

    At the same time, the granite mountains around Shōsenkyō are known as the “birthplace of crystal,” so the area around the gorge is dotted with shops and workshops selling crystal products. Visitors can also take part in crystal polishing experiences and create their own crystal accessories.

    Overall, the Shōsenkyō route is relatively gentle and is a very popular hiking trail during the autumn foliage season. Deep within the valley along the route lies Sengataki Falls, one of Shōsenkyō’s most iconic waterfalls, which has been selected as one of the “Top 100 Waterfalls of Japan.” The name “Senga” (written with characters also used for Chang’e, the moon goddess from Chinese mythology) is borrowed here to evoke the waterfall’s cool, ethereal atmosphere.

    The waterfall has a drop of about 30 meters, with water cascading down the granite rock face. The valley walls are close on both sides, and standing on the viewing platform, you can feel the sheer force and presence of the falling water at close range.

    Along the walking path near the waterfall, you can also spot many coins. This stretch is known as the “One-Yen Road.” It’s said that the “tradition” of wedging coins into the cracks between stones here has been going on for over a decade. Staff from the scenic area regularly collect these coins and use the proceeds to purchase cleaning and maintenance supplies for the site.

    After a short hike, we took a ropeway up to the summit of Mount Rakanji. Although the elevation is only 1,058 meters, you can still look out from the top and see Mount Fuji in the distance. The weather that day was good, and Mount Fuji was clearly visible on the horizon.

    There aren’t any particularly famous attractions here, and since it wasn’t peak foliage season, there were relatively few visitors. We sat on a bench at the summit for quite a while, taking in the unobstructed view of the surrounding mountains.

    The wind rose up from the valley below, carrying a hint of coolness without being biting. The ridgelines layered one after another, their colors fading from specks of green nearby to softer browns in the distance, as if gently brushed over by mist.

    The Return Trip

    On the way back, we also tried out the automated driving currently available in Japan. Unfortunately, the experience was not very good. While it was still daylight, the Tesla failed to correctly detect road barriers at a turn and headed straight toward them without hesitation. Thankfully, human intervention came in time, and no accident occurred.

    At night, the highway portion was something the Tesla handled with relative ease, requiring almost no manual intervention. That said, this isn’t particularly worthy of praise—based on my three years of driving experience, almost all Nissan models can achieve a similar level of performance on highways.

    Before returning the car, we stopped by a Supercharger near Shinagawa to top up the battery. This Supercharger is located in the underground parking garage of a large commercial complex and offers charging speeds of up to 240 kW. However, since parking fees apply after 30 minutes, the optimal choice is to finish charging and leave within that half-hour window.

    Returning the car was also handled entirely through the app. You need to take and upload 12 photos of the vehicle from different angles, confirm whether there are any new bumps or scratches, plug the car into the parking lot’s built-in charger, and finally lock the car to complete the return process.

    Conclusion

    At present, in order to promote electric vehicles, Japan has introduced a series of subsidy policies in 2026. Taking the Model Y as an example, if all subsidy requirements are met, it can be purchased for around 4.3 million yen (approximately 190,000 RMB). Combined with Tesla’s five-year zero-interest financing, this is indeed attractive to many white-collar buyers considering a new car.

    However, based on this one-day experience, I found that there are still quite a few “issues” with driving a Tesla in Japan today. The first is the distribution of charging infrastructure. As mentioned at the beginning of this article, once you leave the Tokyo metropolitan area, the number of charging stations drops sharply. From the charging map, it’s clear that regions such as Shikoku and Kyushu have very few Superchargers. While CHAdeMO or J1772 chargers can also be used, charging speeds are often difficult to guarantee.

    Second, electricity at these charging stations is not cheap. Based on feedback from Japanese users, electricity prices average around 30–55 yen per kWh. Coupled with the fact that Tesla’s driver assistance features in Japan are still fairly underwhelming, this makes the proposition less suitable for most people.

    Taking all of these factors together, I feel that “driving a Tesla in Japan” is better suited to commuting between cities when you have stable charging conditions at home, a clear daily route, and only take short trips on weekends without too much anxiety. Teslas are more ideal for those living in detached houses with parking spaces that can accommodate home chargers, or even with rooftop solar panels. You plug in when you get home, let it charge slowly overnight, and head out the next day with a full battery. Combined with Japan’s common “work during the day, return home at night” rhythm, the car can almost always operate within a personally controlled charging ecosystem. If solar power can cover part of the electricity usage, or if paired with battery storage to shift peak and off-peak loads, both costs and peace of mind become easier to manage.

    To be fair, EVs like Tesla have many advantages over most traditional gasoline cars in Japan: quicker acceleration, easier operation, and a higher level of intelligence. Yet this brief Tesla experience made it easier to understand why Japan continues to move more steadily with gasoline and hybrid vehicles. As long as the certainty around EVs isn’t strong enough, pure electric cars are unlikely to become a “no-brainer choice.”

    Teslas work quite smoothly in cities like Tokyo and Osaka, but once you leave these resource-dense urban areas, many issues quickly become magnified. For people who see a car primarily as a “tool,” the most ideal scenario is still charging at home, rather than charging on the road.

    On January 29, Xiaomi officially unveiled the REDMI Turbo 5 series smartphones.

    Among them, the REDMI Turbo 5 Max is powered by the Dimensity 9500s chip built on a 3nm process.     On January 29, WeChat released a special enforcement announcement targeting third-party violations, with a focus on cracking down on false marketing, excessive marketing, and activities that threaten data security.

    WeChat stated that, based on recent user complaints and reports, it has launched concentrated governance actions against third-party violations that seriously disrupt the platform ecosystem and infringe on user rights.
