    Google Rolls Out Multiple Android Feature Updates

    On May 13, Google announced a range of Android feature updates during its online livestream event, The Android Show I/O Edition 2026, while also teasing the brand-new Googlebook laptop product lineup for the first time.

    The new Gemini Intelligence experience deeply integrates Gemini into Android systems and hardware. It will first launch this summer on the Samsung Galaxy S26 and Pixel 10 series, before later expanding to Wear OS smartwatches, in-car systems, smart glasses, and notebook devices. Core experiences include cross-app and multi-step automated operations. Chrome for Android will launch Gemini in Chrome for Android 12 and above devices in the United States by the end of June. Powered by the Gemini 3.1 model, it supports webpage summaries, contextual Q&A, integration with Gmail, Calendar, and Keep, as well as Nano Banana image generation and editing features. It also supports automatic agent-based browsing capabilities that can autonomously complete tasks such as parking reservations and order modifications on websites.

    In addition, Google Autofill has been upgraded into an intelligent form-filling system powered by Gemini Personal Intelligence, capable of automatically completing complex mobile forms using data from authorized apps. Gboard has also introduced a new speech-to-text feature called Rambler, which can automatically clean up pauses, repetitions, and filler words in spoken language while supporting multilingual mixed input and contextual understanding.     Quick Share is further expanding compatibility support for AirDrop, with broader support arriving later this year for Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, vivo, Xiaomi, and Honor devices. Meanwhile, all Android phones will be able to generate QR codes through Quick Share to share files with iOS devices via the cloud, while WhatsApp integration will also be added to the sharing workflow. Google has additionally redesigned the migration process from iOS to Android, supporting wireless transfers of passwords, photos, messages, apps, contacts, home screen layouts, and eSIMs. The feature will first launch on Samsung Galaxy and Pixel devices.     Finally, Google also previewed the Googlebook laptop platform, which merges Android and ChromeOS into a new category of Gemini Intelligence-centered devices. Googlebook laptops feature a Magic Pointer intelligent cursor that can trigger Gemini contextual actions based on cursor position. They also support generating personalized desktop widgets through natural language and can integrate with Google services such as Gmail and Calendar. Googlebook additionally supports seamless switching between smartphone apps and Quick Access direct browsing of phone files, allowing users to view and use smartphone files directly on the laptop without transferring them.

    Tencent’s Acquisition of Ximalaya Approved

    On May 12, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation announced that it had approved Tencent Holdings’ acquisition of Ximalaya through a decision with additional restrictive conditions attached. The regulator stated that the merger could potentially create anti-competitive effects within China’s online audio streaming platform and online music streaming platform markets. As a result, Tencent, Ximalaya, and the post-merger entity are required to make five restrictive commitments. These commitments include not raising service prices for online audio streaming platforms, not lowering service quality or imposing unreasonable transaction conditions, not reducing the proportion of free or popular free content on online audio platforms, and not entering into exclusive licensing agreements with copyright holders. The regulator stated that these commitments would help mitigate competition concerns caused by the acquisition while protecting the interests of consumers, copyright owners, content creators, and automobile manufacturers. Authorities also stated they would supervise both parties to ensure compliance with the imposed commitments. Source


    Spotify Launches 20th Anniversary Recap Page

    On May 12, Spotify celebrated its 20th anniversary by launching a limited-time personalized recap experience. Users can search for “Spotify 20” or “Party of the year(s)” within the app to access it, where they can view when they joined Spotify, the first song they played, their favorite artist, and the total number of songs they’ve listened to over time. Users can also save a personalized 120-track playlist ranked by their own listening counts.

    Spotify stated that the feature is available globally but will only remain accessible for six weeks. Last month, the company also released cumulative 20th anniversary platform rankings, with Taylor Swift currently holding the title of the most-streamed artist in Spotify history.     eBay Rejects GameStop Acquisition Proposal

    eBay has officially rejected GameStop’s previously proposed $56 billion unsolicited acquisition offer. Last week, GameStop proposed acquiring eBay at $125 per share, representing a 20% premium over eBay’s current stock price. The proposed deal structure consisted of half cash and half GameStop stock. However, GameStop’s current market capitalization stands at roughly $11 billion — less than a quarter of eBay’s approximately $45 billion valuation. Although GameStop had also planned to raise $20 billion through debt financing, CEO Ryan Cohen later failed to provide detailed explanations regarding the remaining funding sources required for the acquisition. eBay stated that it had thoroughly reviewed the proposal, expressing major concerns over financing feasibility and debt pressure. eBay Chairman Paul Pressler additionally described the offer in a letter as “neither credible nor compelling.”

    GameStop previously became one of the defining meme stocks of 2021. In recent years, the company has shifted its focus from NFTs toward retro gaming businesses, while also closing more than 400 stores across the United States earlier this year. Source


    Linux Exposes Another High-Risk Privilege Escalation Vulnerability, Dirty Frag

    Researchers have disclosed a Linux kernel local privilege escalation exploit chain named Dirty Frag. By combining CVE-2026-43284 and CVE-2026-43500, attackers with low-level privileges — including those operating within containers or virtual machine environments — can reliably obtain root access. Exploit code reportedly leaked within three days of disclosure, and Microsoft stated that it has already observed signs of real-world attack testing activity.

    Both vulnerabilities originate from flaws in Linux kernel page cache handling. CVE-2026-43284 targets the esp4 and esp6 processing paths within IPsec ESP receiving flows, while CVE-2026-43500 targets rxrpc. Researchers stated that the vulnerability belongs to the same family as Dirty Pipe and Copy Fail, but shifts its focus from pipe_buffer structures to the frag member within struct sk_buff. Although exploiting either vulnerability independently offers limited reliability, chaining them together reportedly enables stable privilege escalation across all major Linux distributions, allowing attacks such as SSH compromise, web shell deployment, and container escape scenarios.

    Debian, AlmaLinux, and Fedora have already released patches. Google stated that Kubernetes’ default hardening configurations can reduce container escape risks, although virtual machine environments and less restricted systems remain highly vulnerable. Source


    Sony Unveils Officially Licensed Scuf Omega Controller

    On May 12, Sony announced the launch of the officially PlayStation-licensed Scuf Omega gaming controller developed by Scuf Gaming. The controller is compatible with PS5, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android, offering 28 input controls including 11 customizable buttons, 4 rear paddles, 2 side buttons, and 5 G-Keys. Users can configure mappings directly on the controller itself or through the Scuf Mobile app on iOS and Android.     Sony Launches Reon Pocket Pro Plus Wearable Air Conditioner

    On May 12, Sony updated its “wearable air conditioner” product lineup with the launch of the new Reon Pocket Pro Plus, priced at €229. In terms of wearable design, the Reon Pocket Pro Plus adopts a pair of redesigned flexible support arms that wrap around both sides of the neck, while the main unit rests on the upper back. Compared with previous models, the new design improves fit and stability, making it less likely to shift while walking or bending over.     Forza Motorsport 6 Leaked Early and Cracked

    On May 11, the PC version of Forza Motorsport 6, originally scheduled for official release on May 19, was leaked and cracked ahead of launch. According to reports, the leak occurred because Playground Games uploaded Steam preload files in an unencrypted format, allowing players to extract and distribute the files through sharing sites such as GameDrive. The complete leaked build is reportedly around 150GB in size.

    Apple rolls out 26.4 updates across platforms

    On March 25, Apple released updates for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, visionOS, and HomePod software.     Arm unveils its first in-house AGI CPU

    On March 24, Arm announced the launch of its first in-house data center chip, the Arm AGI CPU, marking the company’s first move into chip manufacturing beyond its traditional licensing business. The Arm AGI CPU is built on the Arm Neoverse CPU IP architecture and is designed specifically for AI data center inference workloads. It was co-developed by Arm and Meta, aiming to work in tandem with Meta’s training and inference accelerators. Initial partners include Meta, OpenAI, Cerebras, and Cloudflare. The CPU is capable of managing thousands of distributed tasks, handling memory and storage management, workload scheduling, and cross-system data migration.     Claude Code/Cowork updated with computer control support

    On March 24, Anthropic announced new computer control capabilities for Claude Code and Claude Cowork. With user authorization, Claude Code and Claude Cowork can perform actions such as opening files, launching browsers, and running development tools. Tasks are prioritized through native connectors like Google Workspace or Slack, and if no corresponding plugin is available, operations can be executed directly at the system level.     Spotify begins testing SongDNA feature

    On March 24, Google announced the introduction of a new “Contact Picker” API in Android 17.     • A jury in Santa Fe, New Mexico, has ruled that Meta Platforms bears legal responsibility in a lawsuit involving child exploitation and platform safety. The case was filed in 2023 by the New Mexico Attorney General, accusing Meta of falsely promoting the safety of its products despite knowing that its platforms (including Facebook and Instagram) posed risks of addiction and sexual exploitation among minors. After a seven-week trial, the jury found Meta in violation of two provisions of the New Mexico Unfair Practices Act and imposed a total fine of $375 million.     • A hacking tool named DarkSword has reportedly been leaked on GitHub. Built with HTML and JavaScript, the tool has an extremely low technical barrier, allowing attackers to deploy it easily without specialized iOS expertise through simple copy-and-host methods. Its core functionality involves using HTTP protocols to extract and exfiltrate forensic data from iOS devices, including contacts, messages, call logs, and sensitive keychain data such as stored Wi-Fi passwords. Technically, it requires injecting a process with file system access and transferring collected data to a remote server during the post-exploitation phase. The tool primarily targets devices running iOS 18 and earlier versions. According to Apple, about 25% of active users have yet to upgrade to the latest iOS 26, leaving them vulnerable.     Microsoft promises multiple improvements to Windows 11

    On March 20, Pavan Davuluri, Executive Vice President of Microsoft’s Windows and Devices division, announced that Windows 11 will receive major quality upgrades. The promised measures include—

    • The taskbar will once again support docking at the top, left, or right of the screen;
    • AI integration will be more restrained, with unnecessary Copilot shortcuts removed from core apps such as Screenshot, Photos, Widgets, and Notepad;
    • Users will be able to skip updates during initial setup on new devices, and in daily use can choose to shut down or restart without installing updates;
    • Core Windows experience components, including the Start menu, will be migrated to the WinUI3 framework to reduce interaction latency, with a focus on improving File Explorer launch and search performance;
    • The Widgets panel will adopt a quieter, less intrusive default design;
    • Stability improvements will be made to Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), Windows Hello biometric authentication, and peripheral connectivity.

    As background, Windows 11 has recently pushed AI features heavily across its interface while also facing frequent stability issues, leading to user complaints. These optimizations will be rolled out for testing to Windows Insider Program members between March and April this year.


    Android may require a “cooling-off” day before installing apps from outside official stores

    On March 19, Google unveiled a new proposal targeting Android app “sideloading” (installing apps from non-official stores), which includes a so-called mandatory 24-hour cooling-off period.

    According to the developer identity verification policy announced by Google last August, developers will be required to submit real names and identity verification documents to the platform. This mandatory verification will first be implemented in countries such as Brazil and Singapore starting this September, with a global rollout planned for 2027. The new sideloading process, including the cooling-off period, will be made available earlier in August as an optional setting for advanced users. The high threshold has drawn widespread criticism, and Google later promised in November to continue allowing sideloading for power users.

    Under the newly outlined process, users who wish to enable sideloading must first activate Developer Mode, confirm they are not being coerced, reboot their device, and then wait 24 hours before verifying their identity via fingerprint or facial recognition. Once completed, users can choose to enable sideloading for either 7 days or indefinitely. Google states that the reboot step is intended to interrupt potential scammer activities such as ongoing calls or remote screen monitoring, while the cooling-off period is designed to break the sense of urgency often exploited by fraudsters, giving users time to think more carefully.


    Halide CEO accuses former co-founder poached by Apple

    According to The Information, after failing to acquire the developer behind the well-known photography app Halide, Apple instead recruited one of the startup’s co-founders. The move has since triggered a fierce legal dispute within the original team, with both sides accusing each other of misappropriating funds and stealing trade secrets.

    The lawsuit was filed by Ben Sandofsky, CEO of Halide’s parent company Lux Optics, in the Superior Court of Santa Cruz County, California. He alleges that former co-founder and designer Sebastian de With misappropriated over $150,000 of company funds for personal expenses since 2022, and, after joining Apple, disclosed confidential materials and source code to the company. De With was dismissed in December last year following these allegations and officially joined Apple’s design team in January this year.     Fujifilm releases the instax mini Evo Cinema

    On January 7, Fujifilm announced the instax mini Evo Cinema, a hybrid instant camera. As a hybrid model, it allows users to shoot while viewing images on the camera’s display, select their favorite shots for printing, and apply a variety of effects to create a more immersive shooting experience.

    In addition to capturing still photos, the camera can record videos of up to 15 seconds. The recorded video data can be converted into a QR code, allowing users to create content that can “carry” and share video.

    The camera also introduces a new feature called the Eras Dial, offering filters that evoke different stylistic eras. Each filter can be adjusted across 10 intensity levels, resulting in a total of 100 possible visual effects.

    Corsair launches the Galleon 100 SD gaming keyboard

    At CES 2026, Corsair unveiled the Galleon 100 SD gaming keyboard. The keyboard features a wired design and integrates a 5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 720 × 1080. It includes two rotary dials and 12 screen-equipped keys, allowing users to control commonly used streaming and creator apps such as Spotify, Twitch, VTube Studio, and OBS without pausing gameplay.

    In terms of specifications, the keyboard supports a polling rate of up to 8000Hz and comes standard with MLX Pulse switches. It supports hot-swappable upgrades and also features FLASHTAP SOCD opposite-direction registration, enabling players to execute dodge movements with greater precision and reliability.

    Micron releases the 3610 SSD

    On January 7, Micron Technology introduced the 3610 SSD, designed specifically for ultra-thin laptops and fanless systems. The drive features PCIe 5.0 speeds, QLC (quad-level cell) NAND, and capacities of up to 4TB.

    The 3610 SSD is built on Micron’s G9 QLC NAND technology and is claimed to deliver over a 40% improvement in performance per watt, with I/O performance reaching up to 1.6 million IOPS. It is aimed at meeting the demands of productivity workloads, streaming, gaming, and AI multitasking.

    The drive offers sequential read speeds of up to 11,000 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 9,300 MB/s. The 3610 is the industry’s first client SSD to combine PCIe 5.0 with G9 QLC NAND.     CowTransfer (奶牛快传) to officially shut down its service

    On January 7, the CowTransfer team announced that after recent in-depth discussions and evaluations, they were ultimately unable to reach an agreement with the 123 Cloud Drive team, making it impossible to continue the service. As a result, CowTransfer will officially cease operations starting January 10, 2026.

    At that time, all functions—including account login, file uploads and downloads, and access to historical transfer records—will no longer be available, and all server data will be cleared.     Meta promises to offer EU users compliant personalized ad options

    On December 8, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition and Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology issued a statement noting that the EU has acknowledged Meta’s decision to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Meta will offer Facebook and Instagram users in the EU an option to view ads with a lower level of personalization. Users will be able to choose to share all of their data and receive fully personalized ads, or share less personal information and see ads with reduced personalization. This is the first time such an option has appeared on Meta’s social platforms. The change will go live in January 2026. Previously, in April 2025, the EU informed Meta that it was not in compliance and engaged in close discussions afterward. The Commission stated that once the feature rolls out, it will continue engaging with Meta and other stakeholders to gather feedback, assess the impact of the changes, and collect relevant evidence.     Google showcases three Android XR device prototypes

    At its Android XR media preview event on Monday, Google unveiled three prototypes of Android XR devices. The first, Project Aura, is developed in collaboration with Chinese manufacturer XREAL. Its form factor is similar to the Galaxy XR and requires connection to an external device, making it more of a “less immersive” head-mounted display. Project Aura is expected to officially launch in 2026.

    The second prototype resembles the Meta Ray-Ban glasses, embedding a display in the right lens as a single-eye display setup, but in an even lighter and thinner design. Media attending the event said the prototype’s display performance, software smoothness, and Gemini integration were noticeably improved compared to what Google showed at I/O 2025. This prototype must be connected to a smartphone, which serves as its computing hub. Google prohibited photography of the device. The final retail version will be jointly developed by Google, Samsung, and eyewear companies Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, and is planned for a 2026 release, with an audio-only version also available.

    The third prototype is still in an early development stage and was only shown in a short demo.     Alibaba releases two smart glasses

    On November 27, Alibaba officially launched two series of smart glasses: the Quark AI Glasses S1 and the Quark AI Glasses G1.

    The Quark AI Glasses S1 feature a lightweight design, with temple arms as thin as 7.5 mm and a frame as thin as 3.3 mm. Combined with a titanium alloy structure and a 1:1 front-back weight balance, Alibaba claims the design better suits the wearing habits of Asian users. The S1 uses a waveguide dual-engine optical module with peak brightness up to 4000 nits and supports adjustable image convergence distance. For performance, the S1 is equipped with a Qualcomm AR1 + BES BES2800 dual-chip setup, 3GB + 32GB storage, and a 287mAh swappable battery—allowing what Alibaba calls a “power-swap without shutdown” continuous-use experience.

    For imaging, the S1 includes a 12MP Sony IMX681 sensor, supporting 3K first-person video output, rapid snapshots, and advanced night mode, and it also enables first-person livestreaming. For audio, it uses custom speakers with spatial audio support, while the microphone system combines five microphones with a bone-conduction mic to improve voice capture in noisy environments.

    On the software side, the S1 runs a custom UI with features such as object recognition, translation, reminders, photographic logging, secure payment, and near-eye navigation.     MIIT interprets the consumer goods supply–demand alignment policy

    At a press conference held by the State Council Information Office, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) provided a detailed interpretation of policy measures aimed at enhancing the alignment between consumer goods supply and demand and promoting consumption.

    The ministry noted that China’s consumer market is shifting from rapid expansion toward structural optimization. The increasingly diverse needs of consumers across different ages and regions are placing higher demands on the supply side.     Douyin publishes the Douyin Community Legal Industry Convention

    On November 24, Douyin released the Douyin Community Legal Industry Convention. The convention requires creators in the legal field to complete professional legal qualification verification before publishing specialized legal service content.     Ubisoft unveils experimental game project Teammates featuring AI squadmates

    I first heard about this device from a New Toys submission back in August, but it didn’t really convince me to become one of its “cloud shareholders” at the time. Lately, though, there’s been so much discussion about it — and after scrolling through several Taiwanese friends’ posts and expat comments like “I can’t believe this thing only costs thirty bucks!” — I finally asked a friend to help me place an order. (Honestly, this was the first time I ever felt inconvenienced by not having a Xiaohongshu or Pinduoduo account.)

    For readers unfamiliar with the Yuexingtong X4, there are a few hardware details worth noting before you buy one:

    • It has no backlight, so its ideal use scenarios are outdoors or in well-lit environments — say goodbye to late-night reading under a lamp.
    • It doesn’t support touch input; all operations, including typing, are done via physical buttons. The seller claims this improves response time and battery life while preventing accidental touches. That said, it’s still hard to resist tapping the screen instinctively when playing with it.

    Received the package right at midnight on Double 11 — props to the logistics team for their dedication. Since it’s a small brand, I didn’t have high expectations for the packaging — it’s very minimal — but the product itself surprised me. It’s unbelievably light and thin. Borrowing Boli’s words from his iPhone Air video, the Yuexingtong X4 is also a “sheet” of electronics — thin enough to rest on a wall switch. The build quality is quite good: the cool aluminum-alloy back feels premium, and the matte, anti-glare glass on the front gives off a crisp, transparent impression without that dull haze you sometimes see. Honestly, it makes me wonder if just the screen alone already costs a lot.

    The first thing I did after unboxing was update the system. It shipped with version V2.1.8 and jumped straight to V3.0.5 — pushed out right on Double 11! Along with the V3.0 update, Yuexingtong also released an official Android app. That update cadence is one of the main reasons I trusted and bought it in the end. Whether a team truly cares about its product or not often shows here — and they clearly do. Which brings me to my main point: for just over 200 RMB, this kind of hardware leaves me nothing to complain about (many phone cases cost more than that). But when it comes to software, there’s still a lot of room for improvement. The first issue worth mentioning is font rendering — see the comparison photo below.

    The Yuexingtong X4 feels more like an embedded device than an e-reader with actual computing capabilities. It doesn’t support vector .ttf font files; instead, users have to manually convert them into .bin bitmap fonts. That means your rendering result heavily depends on the conversion tool and parameters you use. The system is closed and offers almost no typesetting options, aside from a three-level line-spacing adjustment. For example, when I use my go-to font — the LXGW New Zhixing Song Screen Edition(project link) — the difference becomes clear: on the Xiaomi Duokan Reader with KOReader, font rendering is sharp and takes full advantage of the 220 ppi display; but on the Yuexingtong X4, jagged edges are still obvious. My guess is that this issue lies in the system’s rendering algorithm, which users can hardly influence — we’ll just have to wait for a firmware update.

    To comfort my fellow “cloud shareholders,” I’ll add this: the early rendering on the Xiaomi e-reader was just as bad. Both the native Duokan Reader and KOReader were disappointing at first, but one system update later, the improvement was huge — not quite Kindle-300 ppi level, but definitely usable. If Yuexingtong X4 can solve this technical challenge, I’ll happily raise my rating. Typography and layout present a second layer of difficulty beyond rendering — for instance, the forced first-line indentation and full-width punctuation still feel awkward. I really hope the team opens up more layout customization options in the future.

    When it comes to font generation, there’s actually quite a bit more to talk about. At first, I thought I could just find some random online tool to convert a .ttf font into a .bin file and call it a day — naturally, that didn’t work. After some searching, I came across a paid iOS app called Dianmo, which specializes in converting fonts for devices like this and even offers fine-tuning options: anti-aliasing, text size, spacing, weight, line height, and so on. According to the latest update notes, Dianmo can also push any file — including generated font files — directly to the Yuexingtong using its “Mobile Push” feature. That basically makes it the ideal client in my mind (it can even tweak .ttf files directly, though that part isn’t really necessary).

    The reason I turned to Dianmo in the first place was that Yuexingtong’s iOS client is still in beta, and transferring files through the TF card is just too much of a hassle. Writing directly to the TF card is fast and stable, but when using macOS, it tends to create lots of hidden system fragments — and unfortunately, those are visible on the Yuexingtong X4. So what used to take three page turns to find a book now takes six. In addition to the “Mobile Push” function (which is really just the device creating a Wi-Fi hotspot for your phone to connect to), the Yuexingtong X4 also supports local network file transfer under the same Wi-Fi — but it’s painfully slow. It’s an embedded device, after all, so patience is a virtue.

    As for some of the hardware quirks I mentioned earlier — here are a few things curious readers might want to know:

    • The operation speed isn’t as snappy as you might expect. There’s about a half-second delay — acceptable for reading, but a little frustrating when navigating menus. In short, you can’t operate it too fast.
    • The six-button layout looks intimidating at first, but it’s surprisingly easy to get used to. The pair on the right, which resemble volume buttons, become second nature in no time.
    • Most official tutorials are hidden away on Xiaohongshu (RED), and there’s no proper website or official documentation online — only third-party reviews. A pity.
    • The Yuexingtong X4 has built-in magnets, so you can stick it on your fridge or even horizontally onto the back of an iPhone Pro Max — no magnetic plate required (though it won’t work on the Pro model due to the camera bump). If you want to attach it vertically, you’ll need to add a magnetic ring.
    • The package includes a matte screen protector, two decent-quality magnetic rings, and a TF card adapter — a thoughtful touch. The brand’s Xiaohongshu store also sells accessories like magnetic lights and clear cases.

    Compared with the previous generation, the OnePlus 15 does bring hardware upgrades — though in some areas, it feels more “restrained.” Has this balance of choices affected its standing as a “good phone”? After using it for a while, I think I’ve found some answers.

    Let’s start with the design. Compared to earlier digital-series models, the OnePlus 15 takes a noticeably different direction. Aesthetics are subjective, of course, but personally, I prefer this new, minimal look. The “Raw Sand Dune” colorway features a finely matte-textured metal frame and glass back, which do a great job at resisting fingerprints and feel comfortable to hold. That said, under dim lighting, the light gray tone tends to appear darker — closer to gray than silver.

    Flip the phone around and light up the screen, and I can’t help but recall the day my colleague Old Mai unboxed the review unit at dinner — the collective “wow” from the table said it all. The ultra-thin, symmetrical bezels make a striking first impression. In actual use, the reduced black edges enhance immersion — it truly feels like holding a frameless screen. Speaking of the display, OnePlus made a deliberate choice between 165Hz refresh rate and 2K resolution, opting for the former. In hindsight, that may prove to be the right call. OnePlus 15 users are the first to enjoy such ultra-high refresh rates, though some apps still need native optimization — a temporary pain that might make people nostalgic for 2K displays. In daily use, however, the 1.5K screen looks nearly as crisp, while delivering smoother visuals and touch response. Combined with a larger battery and tuned vibration motor, the result is excellent battery life — though the spec changes may take users some time to fully embrace.

    Moving to the camera, the biggest shift is from Hasselblad co-engineering to OnePlus’s in-house LUMO imaging. LUMO focuses more on portraits — colors look livelier and more pleasing, with no major loss of detail. Of course, color science is subjective, and without the Hasselblad logo on the body or watermark, the photos feel like they’ve lost a bit of that signature “Hasselblad touch.” On paper, changes to sensor size and focal lengths mean the OnePlus 15 performs better in distant shots and portrait background blur than its predecessor, though it still lags slightly behind imaging flagships in low light.

    To be fair, the OnePlus 15 isn’t chasing the absolute limits of hardware specs. But after experiencing its refined design, premium feel, and smooth user experience from both hardware and software integration, I’d still call it a great phone. The OnePlus 15 represents an upgrade in experience, not just in numbers. That said, I do look forward to seeing a OnePlus that can strike the perfect balance between specs and experience in the future.

    @Microhoo:DJI Neo 2

    Looking back at the first-generation Neo, it now feels more like a proof-of-concept — a Beta product. Its lack of active safety features meant that you actually had to stay more alert to your surroundings while flying it. Even its seemingly simplified controls could easily cause confusion. So, while the Neo’s design philosophy was built around an admirable “zero learning curve” concept, in practice, it still required a fair bit of prior drone-handling experience. Especially after the release of the Flip, I once thought the Neo line might be short-lived — that its vision of “flying freely” might remain just that, a vision.

    But a year later, the Neo 2 arrived right on schedule. And thankfully, this is DJI we’re talking about — they didn’t just upgrade the specs, they also revisited the shortcomings of the first generation. With thoughtful refinements and entirely new features, the Neo 2 finally feels like a complete product.

    Although DJI doesn’t state it outright, I think the Neo 2’s biggest distinction from other drones is that it’s designed — or rather, meant — to be flown completely independently, without relying on a phone or controller (though it still supports both, along with FPV goggles). This time, the control buttons have been moved to the central axis, perfectly positioned for intuitive, one-handed operation. Combined with voice feedback and a small front display, you can now access around 90% of the drone’s functions without any external device. Whether it’s switching flight modes or adjusting distance parameters, it all feels simple and direct.

    To make up for the previous model’s lack of active safety, the Neo 2 now combines LiDAR and a monocular vision system to deliver full 360-degree obstacle avoidance — a feature usually reserved for professional-grade drones. That said, not all “360-degree obstacle avoidance” systems are created equal; performance varies depending on obstacle distance, lighting conditions, and flight speed. Compared with higher-end drones, the Neo 2’s system is, naturally, less sophisticated. And given how unpredictable flight environments can be, I’d still advise against using auto-tracking in dense forests or at night. It’s always worth scouting the area and flight path beforehand.

    Still, the Neo 2’s fully enclosed propeller guards and featherlight 150g build deserve praise. Even if it takes a minor tumble — as long as it doesn’t land in water — it’ll likely come out unscathed. Taken together with its active and passive safety designs, the Neo 2 is safe enough for supervised use, meaning even kids can enjoy the thrill of flight, provided an adult is watching and the surroundings are secure.

    In my view, the most striking upgrade of the Neo 2 lies in its gesture controls — the main reason I believe it truly shines only when used without a controller. During flight, you can guide the drone’s direction by moving a single open palm, and control its distance by spreading or closing both hands. At present, this gesture control feels more like a fun, futuristic toy trick — perfect for showing off to kids. However, when using it for selfies, you’ll inevitably still want some form of visual monitoring. That’s why I’m really hoping DJI will release a small companion display or, better yet, enable compatibility with smartwatches like the Apple Watch to further simplify the experience.

    Since we’re on the topic of filming, it’s worth noting that the Neo 2’s core idea remains that of a compact, intelligent follow-cam drone. Compared to the first generation’s “good enough” level of performance, the Neo 2 has made significant progress. The new model supports up to 4K 60fps video recording, with onboard storage doubled to nearly 50GB. Combined with DJI’s industry-leading image stabilization technology, footage captured in good lighting conditions can rival that of flagship smartphones.

    Of course, when compared to DJI’s higher-end drones, the Neo 2’s imaging specs are modest. But that’s by design — it’s meant to be an entry-level, compact drone. Considering its overall experience — especially the precise gesture control and reliable obstacle avoidance — its price point feels like DJI’s way of reshaping the entry-tier drone market entirely. If you’re not chasing pro-grade image quality and simply want to enjoy the thrill of flying and taking photos from above, the Neo 2 is easily one of the best options available. On the other hand, if you care deeply about image fidelity, flight speed, or wind resistance, I believe upcoming models in the Flip series will soon offer comparable gesture and obstacle-avoidance capabilities — perhaps even better ones. So, waiting a bit longer might not be a bad idea either.

    @北鸮: Sony Vintage Keyboard

    Let’s get this out of the way first — this keyboard is absolutely not worth the price. I bought it mostly for fun, so take this as a lighthearted read.

    I came across this keyboard while scrolling through Xiaohongshu — it immediately caught my eye with its nostalgic, early-2000s “economic boom” aesthetic. After a bit of digging, I figured out its background. This batch of Sony keyboards mostly dates back to 10–20 years ago, from the era when Sony was still fully committed to its unified “transparent” design language. This particular keyboard with a built-in flip cover originally came bundled with the VAIO VGC-LT15E, a Core 2–era all-in-one desktop. The machine featured wide transparent bezels and came with wireless peripherals and a remote control — very much in line with VAIO’s design-first philosophy.

    Its wireless connection system was quite unique as well. Sony designed a proprietary receiver for its VAIO accessories, and some models even had the receiver built into the computer itself. That gave VAIO users the same kind of seamless integration that Mac users enjoy — though, unfortunately, it didn’t support standard Bluetooth. The versions currently being resold online have likely been retrofitted with a new controller, turning these vintage Sony keyboards into modern Bluetooth-compatible ones with small USB receivers.

    The keyboard’s original model number is VGP-WKB5. It’s lightweight but manages to feel metallic. The foldable lid doubles as a palm rest — a bit cold to the touch. Most of the top-row system shortcut keys have been revived, too. One day, I accidentally dropped my phone onto the sleep key — it instantly sent my computer to sleep, so that function works, at least. The Japanese version also comes with a built-in FeliCa card reader, though it’s essentially useless today. I never quite understood why an all-in-one PC keyboard would include one, but maybe it’s just another example of Japan’s peculiar attachment to old tech.

    Typing on it is, frankly, nothing special — it’s your typical scissor-switch membrane keyboard. Mine was preserved surprisingly well; the rubber domes haven’t aged much. The typing feel is soft and short-travel, similar to most laptop keyboards. However, perhaps due to the replaced controller or my current preference for mechanical keyboards, it suffers from frequent double keystrokes — it feels like the debounce delay for key presses and releases is set too low. The seller also remapped the Japanese layout into what they thought was a “standard” one, which only made things more confusing for someone like me who’s used to the system’s default key mapping. My nostalgic membrane keyboard experiment ended less than two weeks later.

    That said, I knew what I was getting into. I bought it expecting a “beautiful disaster” — a desk ornament, really. As a collectible adorned with SONY and VAIO logos, it’s a little piece of discontinued industrial design. Every once in a while, I pop in some batteries, tap a few keys, and catch a faint whiff of that bygone “future aesthetic.” For a hundred-odd yuan, I’d say that’s money well spent.

    A while back, I tried my first PopSockets grip and quite liked it — except the moment you look beyond the basic models, the prices stop being friendly. The Huaqiangbei empire, of course, offers countless cheap alternatives, but most of them look… rough around the edges. Then I stumbled upon a shop called POCASE 破壳 (and no, unfortunately, I’m not sponsored), which makes some original metal phone grips. They looked decent in the pictures, so I ordered two to try out.

    The version I bought was the “Through Adversity” design — the motivational quote engraved on it reads per aspera ad astra [through suffering to the stars].

    The store carries quite a few styles, mostly priced around ¥50. Some designs were a bit too ornate for my taste, so I went with the simpler ones — though honestly, I wish they’d skipped the cheesy motivational quote printed on them. Once in hand, the build felt decent: the top plate is full metal and pretty thick, with a nice aged finish that makes it look like an old commemorative coin. The base, however, is less impressive — acrylic with a metallic coating, and the printed text feels cheap. Still, from a normal viewing distance, it looks fine. On the plus side, the magnets are strong — no corners cut there. In testing, the magnetic grip felt comparable to the original PopSockets, so I can trust it when heading out.

    “Metal Moon” Style

    Of course, the all-metal design comes at a cost — weight. A regular PopSockets grip with its base weighs around 20 grams, while these two come in at roughly 50 grams each. With a phone and case, the total weight easily hits 300 grams. Thankfully, because of how you hold it — wedged between your fingers — the heft isn’t too noticeable in use. Even after long sessions, I found it acceptable. And since the metal lid is slightly larger than a standard PopSocket, it props the phone up at a better, less reclined angle when used as a landscape stand — definitely more practical.

    Lastly, most models come in either silver or black bases, and you can choose between “rotatable” or “non-rotatable” versions. That naming is a bit misleading: even the “non-rotatable” one can still twist around its main axis, just like a PopSocket. The so-called “rotatable” version adds an extra bearing on the top plate, letting it spin freely like a fidget spinner. I tried that one first, but it felt a bit loose and dizzying to look at, so I swapped back to the fixed version — and saved myself the price of three cans of Coke.
